Dana 44 noise?

Recommended Posts

I installed a dana44 in my mj. I got it from the junkyard and it was missing the pinion yoke. I order 1 and installed it. put in fresh gear oil. It has a tracloc. It makes a roaring noise when I drive it. Sounds like worn mud tires from inside the truck. Anyone know whats causing it.

Thats what I was afraid of. No I just tourqed it becouse I didnt have nothing to go by since the yoke was gone when I got it.. The pinion seal is leaking too so I'll probly just install new gears with install kit. I just won't be able to drive it for a while. I planning on 456 gears just don't know if Ill use thick gears and keep the tracloc or get a locker.

Yeah a locker is huge offraod the difference is amazing. I have a cheap lockrite but it does ok but when i get the money i hoping for an ARB since i already have OBA. The lockrite is kinda bothersome on raod cause sometimes it don't slip corectly and jars everything i have even debated taking it out and selling it but hopefully ill get an 8.8 soon so i think ill hold out.

OH yeah back on topic sounds like the bearing issue to me to just do everything at one time to save tearing it down over and over agian. ;) :brows:

your 44 doesn't have a crush sleeve, just preload shims. turn your impact gun on lowest level and tighten down till your socket stops. oh and don't forget a little loc-tite. you wouldn't belive how many pinion nuts and yokes i've seen come off. as for the noise, bearings are shot.
