bruticus
After fixing my fuel pump ground issue yesterday i found another possible major issue, today i had to turn around on a rather icy road 2wd was barely getting my around so i popped it into 4 no problem until i slowed down and tried to pick it back up with the accelerator and it acted as if it was in neutral just reved up and didnt move. i thought it was werid so i stopped to drop it out of 4wd and it just wouldn't even with some force, i put it into neutral and tried again only to get a nice grinding noise. i said screw it after that and turned the truck off and then it allowed me to disengauge i was in neutral so it just pinned the revs at 3k for like maybe 30 seconds then eventually went back to normal. just a minute ago i recreated the situation and it did it again, but this time i dropped it into drive and it just pinned the accelerator and just wanted to move even with brakes applied it decided to argue. this truck is really starting to piss me off. :fs1: Alittle info it is lifted, idk how high PO said he made custom long arms and rustys coils, it has 35 inch bfg mud terrains so its a substantial lift to is i was told my PO it has a metric ton drive shaft and the angle of it is so that it doesnt need and SYE kit. the TC i just checked is a 231 with a aw4 and a slap shift modification to it, http://www.traildriven.com/showthread.p ... 75ad0&t=31 - the write up the PO used, Any information would to awesome, i just wanna get this headache fixed
Backroads
Maybe take a look at the xfer case shift linkage? Is there a xfer case drop on the truck? If there is, possible something needs adjusted a bit?

PO said he "Beefed up" the 4wd linkage maybe thats the suspect, ill be taking pictures for graphical reference sake, it just bothers me it worked FINE before. and i am by no means a mechanic (wish i was)
Backroads
Well you own a jeep, youll become a mehanic in no time :hmm: The area where the linkage connects to the inside of the unibody frame rail is prone to rust. I've seen them twist out of place if the metal gets erroded away enough. Either way its an easy 1st check.
Oizarod115
definitely check out the transfer-case shifter linkage, if its FUBAR you can pull the whole assembly as one pretty easy at a junkyard, and it doesn't need beef-d up when its working properly, you won't break it with normal use. (maybe if you used a steel-toed boot to shift it)

Backroads
3rd pic down from the top would be the part in question. Theres a 'how to' adjust the linkage on many jeep sights, try a google search if no one here comes up with it.
bruticus
you think thats it? i mean it was working days before Also if its not the linkage will a SYE kit possibly fix this issue?
64 Cheyenne
Fluid level in the TC ?
mjeff87
looks like the PO replaced part of the factory linkage with a piece of all-thread and a couple of heim rod ends (I'm working on a similar setup now, too). Third pic shows one of the jam nuts loose on the rod, meaning probably the all-thread spun and that part is now the wrong length. Check and adjust, then tighten the jam nuts back down to keep the length fixed. Also, is your rig at static height in those pics or is your rear suspension in droop? If that's normal ride height, I'd be worried about your rear driveshaft length. That slip yoke is pretty far out of the tailcone. Even if it doesn't fall out, you'll probably have some bad vibes going down the road. Jeff

Jeff I was thinking that too, i havent noticed bad vibes or ive been thinking the vibes are from the Mud terrains. Mistaking one for another, I'm going to have my fluid checked out today to see what that is. I'm thinkin SYE and new rear drive shaft maybe in order assuming the problem isnt the linkage and fluid.
