Trying to replace the knob. The current one is loc-tited on so I really don't want to remove it unless I have to.

Mine was glued as well , but the thread on the shifter comes out , you can put that thing in whatever you want .

 

Glue it back on and re-locktite the thread .

Here is mine I used a real pool ball for like 20 bucks . Used the stock thread and nut .

^^^I had a cue ball as a shift knob on mine, just drilled a hole a bit smaller than the stud and screwed it on. The stud cut the threads into the innards of the 'ball.

 

Then the a**hole neighbor kids stole it one day......

What is the thread size for the shifter knob on a 1987 AX4?

 

The shifter knob thread size is 10.0 X 1.50. The die that I have is an M10. It's metric thread. I hope this info helps.
