Idle?

My MJ usually idles less than 1000 rpm's ,now after driving it idles around 1200 rpm's.If I cut it off and start it back it goes to 3000 rpm's,shut it back off and sometimes it idles normally.....Any ideas?

its a 1988 model......

Manual should idle around 500-600........auto's about 700-800 RPM's.

 

Did you check for vacuum leaks??? Check the MAP???

Could be a dying or dirty IAC.

Checked Vac leaks,removed the IAC and cleaned ,idles at the same rpms after that...Drove it last night and it did fine????
