Injectors stay open when you shut the engine down. Watch the consistency of the oil - if it starts getting very thin and "gas-like", you've got yourself gas mixing in with the crankcase oil.

We recently scored a nice XJ for super cheap because it had the same problem. Turned out to be a dead plug :yes:

 

I'd definately make sure it's firing on all 6. An injector stuck open could likely cause the same symptoms though. Not sure how rich you'd have to be running to get the gas in the oil otherwise.
