Twisty
can anyone post pics/give me an explanation of the location of the 8 bolts that hold on the bed to the frame? so far ive found 2, and I'm missing 6. I know that the gas tank and other things need to come off, but i think i have those covered. i know its a PITA, but the frame, and bed have rust that i need to take care of, and i can't with then bed on the truck. thanks for your help.
Xacto
The 89 manual says there are 6 bolts as follows: -A nut and bolt at the rear of each sill member. Remove through sillmember hole. -Two nuts and bolts at each side ot the cargo box. Hope that helps.
mike
don't forget the 2 bolts on the X crossmember. the one that the spare tire hold against. you have to access them through the hole under each bolt. and don't forget the parking brake bracket, just undo the 3 bolts. also the wiring harness will have to come off, unplug it at the drivers side, it's a big fat connector. good luck, i removed my bed by myself using an engine lift, attached rope to the 4 corner brackets in bed and it lifted right off. comancheman
if u have rust problems i would definetly heat each bolt. i didnt and ended up snapping 6 out of 8 but i have serious rust issues. still wouldnt hurt though
mike
hey twisted, the X member is where the spare tire holds against. the frame is in the shape of a big X, i don't know if thats what the factory calls it but thats what it looks like. ;)
Twisty
ooook i got ya mike. i thought you were talkin about the TC crossmember...that was a little confusing for me. thanks for the clarification!!
jbhill
that would be called the spare tire carrier. theres 10 if you count the e-brake bracket. really i don't see the need for 2 bolts upfront and 6 in the rear. 4 on the frame rail at the rear and 2 in the X member.
