That always sucks! That just goes to show you what cowards those *mod edit* really are. Who knows how could be coming down that road, it could be a small child on his way to school and they just put a bomb under there for someone to set it off. I regret not going over there an sharing a few bullets with them @$$ holes!

:agree: i just wanted to watch my language but i wish the @$$ holes would show them selves and fight like man instead of planting bombs like cowards its horrible. one of the casualties was a journalist from calgary in the rules of war you are not allowed to kill non combatants aka journalist effing cowards. one of the reasons I'm joining the armed froces.

I hope this thread -- and this entire forum -- doesn't get too political, but we might as well address a couple of things (I think):

First, Freakjeep, the Canadians and the Americans and the British and the Polish and the Australian and the ___ troops in Iraq and Afghanistan aren't fighting just for "your/their/our" country as they are fighting to preserve freedom everywhere in the world against the encroaching forces of religious fanaticism. Contrary to what the Islamicist fanatics claim, it isn't "Islam vs. the West" or "Islam vs. the infidels," it is radical fundamentalists against everybody else. Heck, Turkey is a Muslim country and they're on our side. They are as afraid of the fundamentalist zealots as the rest of us are. In Iraq, you have Shiite Muslims and Sunni Muslims killing each other as well as attacking coalition forces. In Afghanistan, you have the Taliban killing any Muslim who dares support the coalition forces against the Taliban.

Second, forget about the rules of warfare. The fundamentalist terrorists do not represent a country, they do not wear any country's uniform, and there is no war (in the legal sense). They are not soldiers (despite the fact they portray themselves as "soldiers of Allah"). What they are, is terrorists. And terrorists never fight "fair" or face to face, unless cornered. Their modus operandi is based on fear. The Geneva (and Hague) Conventions do not apply, at least not in the sense that you might think they apply -- the way they address how two armies of two sovereign nations should conduct themselves. There are other rules pertaining to how an occupying force is supposed to treat civilians -- and I honestly don't think those rules are realistic in this situation, because they did not take into account the possibility of "civilians" who not only resist the occupying force (anyone remember "Red Dawn" and the Wolverines?), but who don't mind killing innocent bystanders in the process and who don't mind strapping explosives to a small child and blowing him/her up as a way of taking out opposing forces.

Civilized rules don't work against uncivilized opponents.

what i meant is soldiers fighting for the freedoms of all countries, i actually meant to put down "fighting for our counties" but you guys know how my typig is and i messed up.

and in truth all of the named countres are fighting together. but in canada (well at least among most of the people i know) we think we are not "peacekeeping" anymore we are fighting a war against the taliban to preserve world freedom. all of our respective armies are fighting to give all people the freedoms we enjoy and i know many canadans ( can't say for americans (i don't know many personally) at least the canadains in the military will fight for the afganistan people untill we are ordered to leave because they are deserving as everyone is to have freedom. and we must help them get it or we are not doing our service as soldiers and as a nation untill all countries and all people have freedom.

It's called guerrilla warfare and has been around in one form or another since the cavemen. It's a small group of combatants using mobile military tactics like quick-hit screw the consequences ambushes and raids to combat a larger and less mobile force. It's been used by the PLA, Castro's rebels in the Cuban Revolution, the Viet Cong, the Nazis panzers, the American and Canadian Indians, and by us in our revolutional war against the Brits to name just a few. It'll always exist in some form as long as we humans are around.

The sorry part of this fighting is that the jorurnalists and other organizations are imbedded with our troops for the purpose of gleaning the information they want to protray the battles for their political interests. This is a giant hinderance as they openly divulge every aspect of the operational methods that are used or are in the planning to be employed against the enemy. And they do it with no regard for the lifes of our men. If they know when and where your going to be it assists the terrorists in planting bombs and booby traps. If you recall a short while back the media mainly only reported on the bad things happening as it was fodder for the anti-war advocates. It has seemed to slow since the political tables have turned some-what on the medias agendas. Anyways, we will never win a war again if we maintain an attitude that war must be fought without harming anyone, or destroying their economy, or causing daily hardships on the general populace. Thats axactly why we didn't win the Vietnam war and never would have. We got out because we didn't have a choice. Same with Iraq and the Somalia fiasco. The days of "Step across that line and your dead" are gone. I was in Nam, but, if I had it to do over I'd likely tell them now to stick it if they weren't going to go all out to end it fast and hard and raze the whole damn country doin it. m2c

i agree yyou can't win a war if you try to preserve everytging. like look at the damage the taliban has done to their own country, our respective armiies could take them out with dong less damage then the taliban has done to their country, i the armies in afganastan should be more agressive at destroying the talibn and then ultinatly bringing peace back to the country.
