Have a '89 2WD, 225K, with 2.5,5sp, 4.11's and 215R75/15.I've had the speedo pegged, that's over 80 on straight level road with no wind. I have no problem coming off the on ramp and merging with freeway traffic. It runs circles around my S10 with 2.8V6. OKOK that's no surprise. Just thot I'd mention it. Just because it's a 4 banger don't sell it short.Jim

Maybe you have a fuel filter starting to plug up. Also check fuel pressure at the port on the fuel rail (Injector feed line). My old 2.5 was worn out and tired, but, it would still do 70 in 4th on flat roads.

i think i can sell it two pistons shorter than a 4.0 lol

all jokin a side the 2.5 had more power than a lot of V6's out there at the time.

your trans should be the AW-4 and it is considered a very good trans. Could you do me a favor and check the gear ratio stamped on the tag on the diff cover on the axle?

Posted

hmm. not enough there to tell the gear ratio.

the reason I ask is that the 2.5/auto usually came with the rare 4.56 gear ratio.

Posted

yes, the 4.56 is a good thing. :D

if the tag is there, it'll be attached to the cover with one of the cover's bolts.
