ncgamedog
SO...what all would I have to do to swap out the AX-15 in my 91 to an AW4? For clarity, I have a 1996 AX-15 installed using the CJ-5 pilot bushing. Will later model tranny's work?
Eagle
Automatics don't use a pilot bearing/bushing. No problem.
jpdocdave
aw4's are computer controlled, more so in the later years aren't they? you'll also need trans cooler lines, the cooler is usually built into the radiator but sometimes vehicles with manual trans do not have a cooler in the radiator, so you'd have to buy a radiator if that was the case. i don't know if your transfer case from the ax15 will bolt right up to the aw4, but you can usually find a trans/t case combo pretty cheap if it doesn't. its been done all over so i'm sure someone has some first hand info.
