Pete M
dunno for sure. The rules-of-thumb weren't as reliable for the early years.

Automan2164
Rumored that an auto 4 cyl has 4.56 gears stock. Â Rob L.
Pete M
I wouldn't bet much money on that. I'm guessing 3.31 or 3.73 (looked it up on car-part.com)

Jack her up and turn the wheels. ;) Â and the axel is already out and the breaks are seized

Pete M
doesn't matter if it's SOA. the XJ perches are in the wrong spot for an MJ. I'd be very leery about purchasing it.

Automan2164
Its says the gear ratio in a set of numbers on the ring, or the shaft of the pinion. It will be the number of teeth on each... For example, the gearset I have been staring at lately is a 3.73 in my ZJ... On the ring gear, it has 41 11 next to each other, a little set off from the part number... 41 teeth on the ring, 11 on the pinion. Divide 41 by 11, and you get 3.727, which is rounded up to 3.73. Automan2164
Or, worst case, just count the teeth on both, and divide the ring by the pinion. Â Rob L.
dunl
Divide the ring gear teeth by the pinion teeth, if I remember correctly? Â For example....41 ring gear/ 10 pinion = 4.10's? Â Someone correct me if I am wrong here. :huh???: :dunce: Â Edit: The man in the black hat with the fastest draw wins. :D
freakjeep93
alright ill do that tomorrow. does anyone know offhand the width id need to put the perches at ? for a mj
Pete M
I think it's 42" center to center.
Automan2164
Just wheel the axle underneath the MJ, and test fit it... Nothing is ever set in stone with these things. Once you get it all set, burn the perches in. Â Rob L.
