Will a NP 231 out of a 1994 Cherokee that had an automatic bolt up to a AX-15 out of a 1994 Cherokee? Will the spline counts be the same?

I'm THINKING YOU TYPED THE WRONG DATES... BUT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION AS IT WAS ASKED, Nothing is set in stone as far as anything Jeep.. But YES, it should bolt up fine.

No the dates are right. I was given a 1994 Cherokee with an AX-15 and a NP231 as a parts Jeep. And I also have an NP 231 from another 1994 Cherokee that was an automatic. The Transfer case out of the manual Jeep has an SYE, where as the NP 231 out of the auto doesn't.

Why would you think he typed the wrong dates?

Cause its the same year. It's a fairly safe bet that same year will be same spline. Especially as we get into the mid 90's. The biggest spline counts changed with the remix/crico era. (21-23 spl, MOST of this was 1990) As parts where used up they where replaced with updated versions. That's why there is no set dates for changes and NOTHING is set in stone. What ever came out of the parts bin went on.....

I thought he was going to come back with 84/94 XJ or some such thing.....
