bowmans86mj
i just recently purchased a 86 mj, 2.5 4 speed. everything seems to be working good. needs new brake lines and front wheel drive doesnt work but seems to be a vacuum line. after a few fender adjustments i squeezed 33x9x15's under. i was just wondering if anyone had any tips and if anyone has been to haspin acres in indiana and if i would be alright down there to have some fun with it??? thanks for the help
64 Cheyenne
FWIW,I wouldn't take a vehicle anywhere with a questionable brake issue. Got some pics?Any lift? Oh, and welcome to the club!
bowmans86mj
the brakes are this weekend's job.. i will be getting them fixed for sure before that. wouldnt want anyone getting hurt. but ya i will try to get some pics uploaded later on today. and no i do not have any lift. i found a few kits i would like to look into but i think I'm going to run this one till it pukes and then get a different one in a little better shape then actualy spend money to get it lifted thank you for the welcome to the club and thank you for the post. also does anyone know the easiest way to remove the vacuum lines on the front drive shaft and still enable 4x4?? thank you again
jaekl
There are many here who say use washers to keep the axle engage, and there are many posts. It's also very easy to check to see if it still works. Just run a good vacuum line to it and see if it works. (Taking the vacuum motor off the axle makes it easy to check) If so then trace the vacuum lines and check them here and there. There is vacuum to the selector on the case and it just reroutes the vacuum to engage or diengage. The light is to go on once engaged and then the vacuum is directed to the light switch. Very likely you have a clogged line or a hole. Your choice, but I'm just saying it usually doesn't take much to get it working again.

86customanche
i have a 86 2.5 4 speed as well and had that same vacuum issue. all i did was take off the cover and basically permanently put the fork that moves into 4wd position. all it does is make it so there is no work needed to be done by the vacuum for 4wd to work and it doesnt effect 2wd at all. very easy fix and it costs nothing :clapping:
