MancheKid86
a while back i replaced my clutch on my 86 2.5L 4 Cyl Manche, without it successfully working, so i worked on it over and over again but i'm running out of time, i am moving to a new place in around three weeks and if my truck doesn't run i will have to part with it, so i'm wondering what i need to do to swap out my transmission with an automatic from a Cherokee or Gran Cherokee, so far i know you need to take the transmission the flywheel and the bearing that goes in the flywheel, what else would i need to do? right now i have an external slave cyl. do i need to do anything to make the newwer slave cyl work with my truck? :help:
ratrapp
i think asking those questions then your in over your head.it would be easier to get the clutch working than attempt an a/t swap.
MancheKid86
thats okay, i intend to getting the clutch working after the move, I'm looking at just putting in a automatic for the time being and pick up where i left off after the move, another factor is the ammount of money another new clutch would be, i would have to pay double the shipping fee to get it over the border so it would be like $230 i don't have, a transmission at a salvage yard would be about $
NWPhotog
Unfortunately converting to auto is likely to take more than three weeks unless you have experience as a mechanic. It would be much quicker to get your clutch issue solved.
Geonovast
I'm slightly confused as to what you're asking. Swapping to an automatic, and then back to a manual isn't used as a temporary fix. For an auto you're going to need the trans, flexplate, torque converter, automatic radiator, auto ecu, trans mount. Also, pretty much the only auto you can use is a TF 904 out of a 84-86 XJ or 86 MJ without a ton of headaches. Not gonna be the easiest to find. What do you mean by "newer style clutch"? The external setup is FAR superior to the internal. Also, automatics don't use slave cylinders. It's going to be MUCH cheaper, MUCH easier, and MUCH more practical to simply fix your clutch setup, especially since you indicated you'd go back to a manual anyway. What's wrong with your clutch? It's probably something fairly simple.
