Pete M Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 They blow up. Mine blew a hole out the side of the trans while I was just tooling along with traffic on the freeway. :dunno: They are barely adequate for a stock 4.0L with street tires. The renix and a 96 HO do not share a common crankshaft hole for the bearing. Both the inner and outer diameters of the pilot bearings changed.
Pete M Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 From this page: http://www.jeeptech.com/convtrans/ax15swap.html The 87 had an outside diameter close to 1" with ~ 0.625" inside diameter. The 96 had ~ 1.75" outside diameter with ~ 0.8125" inside diameter.
Gr8plainsDriftr Posted May 5, 2009 Author Posted May 5, 2009 thanks pete, you may have saved me a huge headache(s) hmm so i need the pilot bearing from a 73 cj5 W/ 304 3 speed, and i need to do this ax15 swap... maybe someone is interested in trading some parts :(
Pete M Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The CJ bushing will only work with swapping a late model AX-15 onto a renix era 4.0. If you're using an HO 4.0, you just need the AX-15 and the appropriate factory bearing.
Gr8plainsDriftr Posted May 7, 2009 Author Posted May 7, 2009 since i have a np231, will it still mate to the ax-15?
Pete M Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Only if the input/output spline count matches up between the trans and t-case.
Gr8plainsDriftr Posted May 14, 2009 Author Posted May 14, 2009 i can't get the internal slave lines off, the only thing left connected. how in the heck do they come off?
Gr8plainsDriftr Posted May 15, 2009 Author Posted May 15, 2009 LOL DUH, nevermind, engine/transmission/xfer case out of the bay. ill have some pictures tomorrow hopefully.
Gr8plainsDriftr Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 my renix fuel pump should work with the HO engine, correct?
CWLONGSHOT Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 my renix fuel pump should work with the HO engine, correct? I believe that they are different... CW
Pete M Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Pump? Yes, it'll still pump fuel. Fuel level sender? The gauge will read backwards because they switch the polarity in 91. And someone correct me if I'm remembering this wrong, but I think if you swap the positive and neg wires, it still won't be perfectly accurate.
87Warrior Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Hey Gr8, when you are ready to test the truck out off-road, let me know. I am near Junction City, just a short drive up to Tuttle for the best wheelin' in KS :clapping:
