Jess Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Has anyone ripped a Cruise Control system out of an XJ and put it in their MJ? I probably won't get to it unless its much easier than I'm expecting - but I'm driving up to Vancouver, BC in August (from Sacramento, CA) and it sure would come in handy... 89, 4L
SchneiderFishing Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I haven't done it but have been thinking about it. I am interested in hearing an answer to this as well.
64 Cheyenne Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I'm interested as well. Just got this 89, plan to swap out it's AC, tilt, cruise, intermittent wipers. Even got a better 4.0 than the one that is currently in the MJ. Don't plan on any of this too soon as the MJ is still undergoing its 4x4 conversion. If I do get around to it soon (Sometime this year) I'll make sure I take lots of photos.Hopefully somebody has info on this. Oh Yeah...... got the XJ for 175$
Jess Posted April 11, 2009 Author Posted April 11, 2009 Looks like the pop's and I are going to head down to the Pick n Pull soon (not sure when exactly) and take out an XJ's cruise. I'll bring my camera and take pictures for reference and I'll try to write a guide of some sort. If anyone has done it and has some preemptive advice, let me know :)
HOrnbrod Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I've installed it in my 91; took about an hour. All the wiring is built into the harness and it's pure plug-and-play. You need the speed control servo, the cable that runs from it to the throttle bracket, and a new stalk with the cruise wire. But I suspect all you guys are talking about Renix vehicles, that's a bit more involved. :D
Jess Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 I have an '89 4.0L which I believe has a Renix? I don't know the engines inside out yet. Whats different about it (The CC system)?
JeepcoMJ Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I have an '89 4.0L which I believe has a Renix? I don't know the engines inside out yet. Whats different about it (The CC system)? yes, I've done it actually, if you have an automatic, I have a good complete cruise control system I don't need any more. remember, cruise control wiring etc. is different between auto and manual...with a 5 speed there is an extra cutout sensor on the clutch pedal, so you need the wiring to match that if you have a 5 speed
JeepcoMJ Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I have a 5 speed yeah :( I'll talk to TNT tomorrow. he has my 89 5 speed, which had cruise that worked great. I'll try and get that for you if you can't find it at the junkyard
SchneiderFishing Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I've got a 90 4.0 Automatic. I'd be interested in the cruise control.
MoparMatt77 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 1991-1993 XJ/MJ use an electric speedo. 1987-1990 XJ/MJ 4.0L use speedo cables. For cruise and intermitent 87-90 you'll need both speedo cables, Cruise control module, intermitent wiper module, CC/Wiper switch/stalk and/or internal column switches. It may be easiest to swap column, cables and modules from coresponding years. There should be the rest of the wiring under the dash already.
