mjeff87
It was a good weekend. Got Pat's bumper mounted up finally (see post in the projects forum), and scored a set of ZJ D44 disc backing plates and calipers from the 'yard. $23 out the door..... I was going to use a set of Crown Vic discs but this makes it sooooo much easier! Jeff Image Not Found
pingpong
are those pics of the ZJ brakes? If so they look alot like the brakes on an 8.
mjeff87
yep, late model ZJ D44. Had a funny diff cover, which I may go back and snag......thinking about doubling the stock cover using it and cutting out the fill hole area. Funny thing is it was a C clip axle, so I had to pull them to get the shafts out. I pocketed the center pin, too (hopefully I'll never need it!) pingpong
The ZJ housings are aluminum  that might explain the different cover.. I swear they look a whole lot like 8.8 discs.... did you grab the rotors, and ebrake crap as well?
mjeff87
Rotors were shot, and the parking brake pads were shot also. I got all the hardware for the e-brake (springs/pins/levers, etc), just gonna get new rotors and pads. They didn't charge me for the brake hoses from the caliper that have the banjo fitting and mounting bracket on the other end :D . I was gonna take the brake cables, 'cause they have the ends that snap into the lever, but didn't. I can pick them up new for a few $$, and it looks like I'll be able to booger them into the factory MJ cable bracket thingy under the bed without too much of a problem. If not, I'll use the MJ cables and adapt them.
500 MJ
Jeff, did you ever end up putting these on? How well do they work? I'm looking at getting a similar setup for a D44 I am about to purchase... Exactly what years ZJ would have these?
mjeff87
heh.....no I didn't. They're still sitting in the parts project pile, to go in maybe eventually. I ran across a smokin' deal on a set of fully rebuilt loaded drum backing plates locally, so I just ended up staying with drums to keep things simple. Plus I swapped in a dual diapraghm XJ booster/MC, which really improved the stock braking system. For now, brakes are working great, but I still might do the discs later on down the road.
