ATV lift

I'm getting ready to do my 2wd to 4wd conversion on this.

I wasn't looking forward to the thought of removing the BA-10, then installing an AX-15/231 TC by my self.

Thought I might have to either borrow or buy a tranny jack but then I came up with this idea, why not use my ATV

Has anybody done this before, what are the pros/cons.I think I'llsupport the combo with blocking and a ratchet strap,

what do you think?

Never mind........ I'd not be able to use the lift bcause of the mast.

Oh well...Back to the drawing board.

Those are a PITA. They seem like a good idea at first, but when the transmission is wobbling around on top of one of those there will plenty of unkind words. Get one of these. It makes it much easier.

I agree. I tried to use one of those once, but by the time you get the tranny on that and fanagle it under the truck, you might have well lifted the truck up, and dropped it down on top of the tranny sitting on blocks.

 

Last time I did a tranny swap I pulled an AX-5/207 and put in an AX-5/231. Used a 3 ton jack and did it by myself. It wasn't that bad. Getting it out was actually worse than putting the new one in. Just jacked it up far enough to bolt the crossmember to the frame, got behind it, and shook and pushed. About 2 minutes of that and it slid right in.

 

I think getting something to angle the motor back would be more beneficial than a giant monstrosity under the truck.

if you want to do it right, skip the adapter for the floor jack, they really stink. the tranny jack shown from harbor freight works great.

 

i tries one of those adapters last summer on a chevy 700r4 tranny. i got so ticked off i threw it out of the way and just used the floor jack and some muscle. most tranny's i've done have just been with a floor jack, but when i've used a tranny jack, it makes the job much easier.

 

but, the cheap way is to lay under the tranny and let it drop on your chest. :ack: then it doesn't get damaged at all. when it's on your chest, slowly slide out from under the truck. it's just that easy. :yes: been there, done that. :wall:

Done the floor jack, chest drop,2x6 seesaw.....first time I'm doing anything with a TC. So I went ahead and ordered the HF

tranny jack for 57$ (Buyers club deal or something like that). I have to pull a AX-5 207 combo from my donor vehicle, install

an AX-15 231 combo into the MJ. Figure a tranny jack would be a good investment. I'll do the chest drop thing to get the BA-10 out of the MJ if the jack doesn't get here before I get started on pulling the tranny. Anyway.....thanks for the input,

you know i was kidding about the chest drop method, right? :yes: :yes: :yes: :yes: it hurts and makes it tuff to breath, especially when you break a few ribs doing it. i'd rather spend the money on a tranny jack (as you said you have) than on the doctor bills for broken ribs.

 

my wife still gives me a hard time about the time i dropped a tranny on my chest. she thinks it's funny to remind me. :shake:
