Hello, hopefully this is the right section for this, I actually just created an account. I returned from my AIT training with the guard and have been without a car for a few months. (I sold my 1994 nissan hardbody before i left for basic training) That left me a long time to search craigslist and autotrader. I now have my bonus money and had been keeping an eye out for an early 90's toyota or nissan 4x4, when i stumbled upon this.

I'm driving to meet the guy selling it in a few hours, any last minute advice of things i should look for? From what ive been able to dig out of the internet so far, the comanches is a reliable pickup truck, and at the price he is asking i would have a thousand or so to put into a tune up/maintenance, plus some new tires and cheap mods ect.

Anyway, here is the ad. Let me know what you think and i'll keep this thread up to date on how the meeting goes. If everything looks nice and clean I might be buying myself a little MJ.

"This rare truck has 143,000 miles on the original engine. The truck runs fine. has a high idle up here in the cold weather. It is a 4x4 which works great. Ithas the inline 6 cyl. cd player. 1.5" Rancho lift. 5 speed Manual Transmission. The front tires are pretty bald, the rear tires have a little tread left, but not much. It will need new tires right away. The clear coat in the paint is peeling on a couple different areas. A few minor dents. Overall though its in pretty good shape. No rust. Registered in California. It passed smog back in August."

The images arnt great, but from my conversation on the phone, its a high school kid who is selling the truck his parents bought him because he wants something to cruise with his friends in.

Take a #2 phillips screw driver with you and do you best to pull up the edges of the carpet to check for moisture underneath. There are a dozen ways for water to get there, but no way for it to escape. Even rust free MJs are susceptible to losing the floors from the inside out.

Based on the steering wheel and (lack of) armrests, it's a base model. That's not a bad thing, just a comment. It'll have idiot lights instead of gauges, but that's a quick swap with a junkyard instrument cluster and changing a couple of sensors and you can have full instrumentation.

Looks very solid. Those aren't original MJ rims -- I suspect they may be Ford rimes, which means they stick out a bit more than factory rims, but that shouldn't be an issue. They look good on the truck.

Nice rig. Did you buy it?

Even if the floor has some rust -- you can buy replacement floor pans. That's much better than having the quarter panels rusted out. AFAIK you can't find replacement quarter panels anywhere, at any price.

Hey everyone, I ended up buying the MJ for $1100 just a few hours ago. I posted some bigger pictures of the truck in another thread that you can see here
