how difficult is it to properly rebuild an AX15 transmission?

ive got a line on one that grinds a little into 4th gear (don't know how bad or if its all the time or not)

 

all i know is the pukegoat now whines insanely in 5th (no longer drive in 5th) and makes a hell of alot of "whirring" noise in 1-2 (especially when i hit the clutch and it slows down)

but i beleive itll run long enough for me to find a new tranny and such.

so back to the question, how hard is it to rebuild an AX15?

i've never done one, but my gf's dad did one i his YJ. He said it wasn't very difficult (i have no idea becuz i've never really seen one in a bajillion peices). i know there is a book availabale on it.....I seen it on tv once too...or was that an AW4? i duno. i say find the book. amazon is bound to have it i htink

Shouldn't be all that hard. :dunno: I don't really know for sure since I haven't tried it, yet. I wonder if it requires a gear puller and a press? :wrench:

Get yourself a factory shop manual. I'd hate to try doing it with a Chiltons or Haynes.

Oh, and if you're anything like me, make sure you have yourself a back-up plan... :brows:
