pug Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 Is there a link on how to upgrade 1990 bucket seats to 1997+ bucket seats. thanks
702_MJ Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 why not just separate the brackets from the 90 and weld them to the 97. Cuz the only lthread i know of is bench to buckets in the DYI
90MJext Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 why not just separate the brackets from the 90 and weld them to the 97. You can't that was the route I was going to take to install '00 seat from an XJ, the brackets are different. Pug you either have to get the brackets (welded to floorboard) from the donor or fab some up.
702_MJ Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 So the rails that the brackets originally are rose welded to are different distances apart?
90MJext Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 speaking for the '00 seats I have, the whole setup is different, I'm looking at fabbing up the piece needed to mount them.
pug Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 I finaly figured out how to bolt in the new seats. Unbolted both frames on both sets. Then were the factory frames were riveted i bolted a 1/8 flat steel to the new buckets. I then bolted the old frame i took off to the factory mounting . set the new seat on top off old bracket were the flat steel is marked it added more flat steel were i marked . Then drilled 3/8 hole into seat frame and flat steel. Bolted together every thing lined up with factory mounting points. It took about 2 hours first seat and about 45 min other seat. Sorry i don't have any picture
rckrdyxj Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 the easiest way to do it is remove the floor bracket off a 95+ xj and tack weld it to the floor, 95 + seats are the same brackets in all xjs 95 and newer and all zjs and wjs etc. Project ONYX is done like this in the build threads.
pug Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 I tried that but the seat sat to high. I was looking at the sun viser. Also i do not have have a welder.
rckrdyxj Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 95+ XJ seats naturally sit higher than older style seats.
