Should I rebuild transmision or swap?

I just bought an 87 comanche 4.0 5spd. It grinds when I down shift to 2nd every thing else is fine. Should I rebuild the ba 10 or swap to the ax 15? It came with a 3inch lift and I plan on putting on rubicon wheels with 31s. I am not going to really be offroading it light fourwheeling. Would it be worth the time and money? Thanks

Swap it...rebuilding that tranny is like rebuilding a broken D35 :shake: . The BA10/5 is hard to find parts for and they are expensive to rebuild. You could probably do the AX-15 swap for less money. :cheers:

Thanks. The ax 15 mounts up preaty easy? Are you going to end up changing yours over?

Yes, the AX-15 is a pretty easy swap. There are a lot of write ups on doing it...some on here and many you can find with Google.

 

I will change mine when it goes bad, but for now it works like a new one and my truck is strickly show / street so it never gets any extra stress on it ;) . I have a 32RH tranny laying in my shed out back that I was thinking of putting in our YJ, but it may go in the MJ if needed.
