HOrnbrod
I have the 7 year commitment because I am a NAV. Pilots catch an 8 yr. ABMs get 6, and I think most others are all 4. My daughter is attending UA under a USAF ROTC engineering scholarship. She loves the ROTC part, is a great cadet according to the Det, but is less than enthusiastic about the engineering field. The Det is urging her to sign up for pilot training after commissioning, and she likes it so she can change her major. The AF is trying to get more females in as pilots as I'm told there aren't many. You say you're a NAV and are committed for 7, so what other options are there for her besodes pilot training? I've tried to find more info on the web on these programs, but haven't had much luck. I know a few people who are less than happy with the engineering field. I know some who love it. If she goes Pilot, and wants to change her major, she needs to have it approved, especially if she is on contract. If she is not on contract it should not take much to get it approved. If she is on contract and goes from a tech major to a non-tech major she will possibly lose her scholarship if she does not get approved for a new contract, but this would probably not kick her out of the program. I started out in Aerospace, when I picked up my rated slot I changed to History. No sense in staying in the hard field unless she wants to go be a test pilot or fly the Shuttle one day. Does she like video games? If so and she goes pilot she can volunteer for the Predator. Something like 20% of Pilots are going unmanned now. I am a Strike NAV, I will either end up in a F15-e or a B-1. I am part of the last class of split Navs. Everyone will be coming to Pensacola for training starting in 2010. And she would be able to go to any airframe with a NAV/CSO/whatever the airforce calls us then. She can be an ABM as well, they fly around in the back of the big radar bird and provide air control to guys like me. They carry a 6 year commitment. Those are the 3 rated programs. She can also do a whole bunch of other jobs. Only like 5% of the AF fly. She can be a Logistics officer, Security, Weather, ect. Here is a pretty good site containing Officer AFSCs. http://usmilitary.about.com/od/officerj ... ffjobs.htm regardless of what she does, it is a great opportunity. Let me know what else you have questions about. Same for her. Whatever sources she can get in contact with outside the Det are great. The real AF is slightly different than the ROTC variety. chunks6067
Texas A&M CSand yes i believe he has his job already as of last year ..maybe it was 7 years hes already obligated for (air force by the way) and if i remember correctly his first orders are in California fun stuff I know a few aggies. I have the 7 year commitment because I am a NAV. Pilots catch an 8 yr. ABMs get 6, and I think most others are all 4. If it is California he is probably going Space and Missiles if I had to guess. i wanna say it is Space and Missile but I'm not sure how long ..i think he wasn't interested in pilot position because of the extended commitment
