89 comanche oil leak question

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a 89 comanche has a oil leak that seams to be coming from the head block surface. We did a valve cover gasket first degreased the motor and I am finding oil coming down the block above and behind the distributor (also just did the dist gasket) Is it possable to leak oil from a head gasket?? Also his jeep has some nasty blow by that was not there when I bought it 2 months ago. Should also mention this truck only had 300 miles put on it in 2 years. Will be adding a pic of the truck soon. Thanks for any help!

Most likely the CCV orifice in the valve cover is plugged, causing most of your blow by and oil leak problems. It can't be fixed without removing the valve cover, so unless you used the blue rubber re-usable one you will have to buy yet another valve cover gasket.

It's unlikely that the head gasket is leaking oil, but it's possible.

Sounds more like the timing chain cover is leaking, and the fan is 'blowing' the oil back to the distributor. That's right behind the harmonic balancer. The oil filter adapter is also a prone oil leaker, but that's behind the distributor.

Nothing like dealing with these 20 year old trucks and the 20 year old gaskets and seals
