xj_dummy
My wife has a 90 xj with ABS :wall: with a 4.0 That I'm not looking forward to fix. Also it has gotten hot so I don't know what shape the engine is in? Would this be a good buy? I havent looked at it yet, so I just want your feed back. Thanks for your help. http://fresno.craigslist.org/cto/962366685.html
jtdesigns
I think thats a lil much. If you can talk them down to 7, still iffy. All this is under the assumption the linked jeep is for parts.. As for a driver then, its according to the shape of the jeep. I've seen worse for more. Its kinda got some high miles, but the 4.0 is just getting broke it. But the chassis has high miles, so be prepared to spend a lil on the oddball things. Its really according to how well it was taking care of and driven. xj_dummy
Yea it would be a daily driver. You said "but the 4.0 is just getting broke it", what do you mean?
Eagle
Best fix for the early Cherokee ABS is to remove it and install a conventional brake system. The system was so bad that the Feds forced Chrysler to put some of the more expensive parts on an unlimited warranty. But ... that doesn't cover all of the parts, and with the future of Chrysler looking "iffy," what good is a warranty if there are no parts available to back it up? Plus, my understanding is that the failure mode for that system is not to default to standard, non-ABS brakes, but rather to default to NO brakes. Let me put it this way: I would not allow my wife to drive one of those things, and I talked my ex-girlfriend out of one and put her into an '88 XJ Laredo with standard brakes instead. Just an old saying based on the longevity of the 4.0. The 4.0 is one tough engine.
