FxRacing282
found a 88 mj for 500 with an 02 TJ axle up front (D30). its a 2wd with a 5 speed. so other than a t-case & linkage) drive shafts what do i need? i can't seem to think of anything else
Pete M
A 4wd trans that matches the spline count of the t-case would help. I'd suggest AX-15. Does the front axle match the gear ratio of the rear?
FxRacing282
i sure do hope so. if not i know a guy who will give me a D35&30 so that no biggy. so a no go on keeping the tranny?
wolfpackjeeper
you would need to swap the output shaft housing to a 4wd model. Wouldn't It be the ax5 anyway? I would just find an NV3550 or an ax15 external slave.

Pete M
If the truck is a 2.5L, then you might be able to rebuild the 2wd AX-5 into 4wd if you can get the right parts. If the truck is a 4.0L, then it's a Peugeot transmission and is best used as a boat anchor (or give it to someone in desperate need of a 2wd trans 'cause they blew up their own Peugeot). Go find an AX-15 or NV-3500 (if you can find a 3500 in your price range)
Eagle
You didn't say if it's a 2.5L or a 4.0L. Keep in mind that the TJ front axle is a low-pinion D30, so it's okay for street and light (dirt road) 4x4 use, it's nowhere near as strong as the high-pinion D30s used in the MJs and pre-Y2K XJs. If you're looking at a lift in the future, the low pinion means you'll start encountering pinion angle problems with less lift than if the axle had a high pinion. FxRacing282
my bad, its a 4.0. when i lift id run full size axles. yes the tires will stick out but i like it that way.
