  1. Buy a lift kit. You can start at www.rustysoffroad.com
  2. Starting the 4wd swap soon! Picked up an AW4 and 231 with front driveshaft. Already have the front axle, now i just need to collect lift parts and 3-link parts. Also got a set of 33's on wheels for $240.
  3. The toyota axle is just like a ford 9" with a removable third member. So all i would do is flip the housing, then rotate the knuckle balls 180*. The third member will remain a low pinion just on the drivers side rather than passenger side. I think that makes sense.
  4. Well, I sold the toyota axle cuz i got an offer i couldnt refuse. Good news is i had a non disco d30 in stock. I'm picking up a trans. tomorrow. While I was collecting parts for the 4x4 swap I decided to repaint it. PO tried to cover up rust with a different color white and it looked like . I went with an off white (or almond for the women) and repainted the parts that were already black with a semi gloss. Also picked up new stickers from http://www.jeepsticker.com, even sent me two "4 wheel drive" stickers for free . Great website and i def. recommend them to everyone. Here are some pictures of it painted.
  5. Ya, I sold my toyota pickup that i was going to swap this into, so now i figured id put it into my comanche. But from what ive read, rotating the knuckles is easier on a yota axle than on a dana axle. Ive also read that the 3rd member won't just be able to rotate 180* and still bolt in, so some holes will ahve to be redrilled. SHould be a fun project.
  6. Here is the Toyota axle that i will be swapping in. It is pass. drop so i will be flipping it and rotating the third member and knuckle balls. Loaded with stock 4.10 gears 1.5" wheel spacers which brings it about 3/4" narrower than a stock D30, and 30 spline Longfield axle shafts.
  7. Got it registered and insured today. Runs and drives great!
  8. Found an aw4 with a 231 for $175. coming out of a running jeep. Hopefully will have that sometime around labor day. I kinda want to get a 3" lift installed before the swap.
  9. New tps and it shift great
  10. Thats the plan, I ordered one that should be here tomorrow morning.
  11. After selling my old '87 that was on a d44 and ford 9" with 35" boggers, i had a couple other cars but got the comanche itch again. old- New- 1990 Eliminator 2wd shortbed with 4.0l-aw4 and bucket seats Future plans-4x4 conversion with Toyota axle swap with 30 spline longfields and 31-32s and a plow for my landscape company. Currently need to figure out why the trans won't shift out of first gear. Install o2 sensor that magically disappeared by previous owner. Replace passenger side window that was smashed.
  12. thanks! ill get better pics by the weekend. It was my first time using a bender so i hope everything is straight :D
  13. that was my worry too, since i had to build the bumper at my house with no truck in front of me to work on. He said it fits good and doesnt effect the headlights, so if hes happy I'm happy. I'm sure ill be adding offroad light mounts soon tho. ill try and get better pics when he gets back from college this weekend. thanks for looking.
  14. I just finished the bumper for my buddys comanche. let me know what you think! sorry for the crappy cell phone pics...
  15. holy big picture of my jeep
  16. What is the spring rate of the front coils? Are you using poly or rubber C-bushings? 180lbs I'm not sure but i think i have just stock replacement C-bushing if that helps. but i think my problem is to much flex in the rear axle. the rear will flex way before the front so the front springs have never had a chance to break it. Nor have the johnny joints
  17. i have the ford radius arm up front, my are lengthened pretty far(don't remember exactly) and have johnny joints on the end. and i don't ahve any flex in the front. with stock springs in the rear the front doesnt move at all. ill get some pictures of my setup later and show you all.
  18. just got back from a day of wheelin at the mounds! MJ did pretty good i was real happy wiht how it was runnin! ill post more pictures tomorrow! Only stuck of the day! Note: I'm running full widths,9-10" of lift, 35" boggers
  19. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6012 here's a link to my project...i need to update the pictures here, once i get a nice day
  20. well my stock leaf pack is in pretty poor shape..so i want to just get rid of it. i like dealing with nice new parts alot more then the old stock ones lol. Otherwise id stay with it.
  21. well i wanna eliminate the stock leaf pack. It is already SOA and i know putting a 3" lift pack in there is gonna make it have a huge amount of lift but the only thing i can find is a 4" lift pack from rustys. tho its only one inch but still is a noticeable amount at my ride height. Right now i have around 10" of lift in the front and like 5-6 in the rear. tho Its easier for me to just go with the rusty 4", and ill prob do that. Note i am running full widths
  22. does anyone make a 3" full leaf pack for the comanche? I'm just not a big fan of aal. any help would be great! thanks
  23. Looks Really good!! those rims came out great!
