  1. where did you get that diagram from?
  2. I think the noise went away but ill double check everything, if the alternator is broken autozone owes me a new one.
  3. I just put a remanufactured new alternator in my truck and it kinda makes a humming noise, is that typical break in or is some thing wrong?
  4. well all you would have to do is tie it into the frame some how, make a braket and weld it or bolt it to the frame, your choice. But if its wider just cut like i don't know how many inches out of it in the center and weld it back together with some bracing, then send her off to poweder coat. I'm gonna look for a dakota bar for my truck now since they will fit i guess.
  5. Well since the subject is on dakota's and mj's. Would a roll bar from a long bed dakota fit a lwb comanche? Not to be off subject or anything but i havent been able to get an opinion out of anyone.
  6. dang u guys fly on that stuff. I aint even got mine out yet, course i wasted half my time walking back and fourth getting the right tool. And theres only those three bolts holding it on right? If so man mine is seized on there pretty damn good, too much mud bogging.
  7. Iam looking for a roll bar for a long bed comanche, but theyre kinda hard to find. So what other roll bars will fit? I know s-10's will fit withsome modification, what about a dodge dakota's or a toyota tacoma.
  8. any one know a rough guesstimate on how long it should take to instal a stock replacement alternator.
  9. yeah but hey i can live with not relocating it, but what i was thinking is if its broke might as well upgrade. I plan to run lights on the truck and i thought the aftermarket alternator would help power them all, when i get them in the future you know. Because i want to run 4 lights on the bumper and 4 or 5 on a roll bar when i get one. Would a stock alternator even be able to put out that kinda power if they are all ran at once?
  10. I want to get a volt meter and just make sure. I think when i recently went i got it a little soaked when i fell into a water hole, i had the water up above my 31's if that means anything. But its kinda a stupid design by jeep to have the alternator right level with the bumper. I've seen mean green in the quadratec catalog, but what about goin off road again, i want to go mudding again, i don't need to screw up another one.
  11. My alternator has been giving me some trouble lately. It doesnt turn on every now and then i don't know if its a connnection or maybe the alternator is just going bad or maybe i screwed it up. But the guage will read about 12volts or less for the battery when i start it and it will either turn on and read 14 volts or a little over or it won't turn on and charge the system until I'm doin 65 on the freeway 15 min later. When i turn the blinkers on the needle fluctuates and moves. I don't know if its time to replace it or what? Oh and is there an aftermarket alternator thats like water proof or sealed and puts out more amps and all that good stuff? If there is or theres one you recoment let me know thanks.
  12. What about using a rollbar/light bar from a 1st gen dakota? Would that work, just fab up some brackets and tie it in to the frame so its a little more sturdy and can help if you roll. Because I'm looking for a roll bar for my long bed but they are hard to come by.
  13. well its done, hopefully it solves my problems. Thanks to everyone for the help.
  14. Yeah I was trippn out, but i called a a fellow comanche owner, and he said the same thing. His truck got into JPmagazine's May 2007 issue in jeep shots. They called it Hawaiian MJ if anyone wants to take a look at it. He was hella stoked when he found out.
  15. ok well i got the hub off. one question is the axle supposed to just slide out of the housing really easy? Thats a shock to me, so i don't know.
  16. well i blasted away, everything was just coming off effortlessly ..........until i got to the hub its self. man when they put them on there, THEY REALLY PUT THEM ON THERE! so I'm taking a quick break then I'm gonna go back out and try to get it off.
  17. see thing is its still attached to the axle. But luckily my friend's family I'm staying with has an impact gun.
  18. yeah then i found out that mine were not tapered, they're ball bearing, my dad changed the axle when he did the engine swap. So no they becam 150 a piece so 300 total, man i am now broke. Oh any specific technique to get the nut with the cotter pin off mine is seized pretty good and it its kinda got me confused and i don't want to break any thing.
  19. Yeah I went to auto zone last night to get that 36mm, checked the price of the hubs and they were outragious! $165 for expensive and $100 for oe spec ones. I was gonna go through quadratec and order some but I need these fixed by friday morning.
  20. Yeah I just called a friend and he said I just gotta replace the hub,so i gotta replace it on each side. Hopefuly i can find one at pepboys or checkers.
  21. Well any way I started taking the stuff off. Is it bad to have half eaten BB's fall out when you take the rotor off, thought that was a clear sign. Well now I don't have a socket big enough to get the adjusting knut off, any ideas, i don't need a special tool do I? Another thing would it be a good idea to change all the oil seals around the bearings?
  22. Man sounds like a good deal so I'll do the same. Is there any grease that i can pack in there to kinda prevent this again, like marine grease or something?
  23. Man it just happens when i drive. I think when i was muddin a week ago I fell into a water hole and had the water up to the bottom of the mirrors. So my guess is that water creeped its happy @$$ in there and now its screwing up a bearing like you guys said. But the noise just happens driving period. So I'm gonna take it apart today and just start process of elimination. Check the brakes, bearings, axle shafts, carrier, etc. until the problem is solved. Thanks for the ideas.
  24. I was cruisin the street last night and i noticed a kind of rubbing and grinding noise in the front of my truck. Took a look and did not see any sign of rubing or anything from what i could tell. Kept driving and it progressivly got worse and seemed to slow the truck down a little every time I heard it, like somthing is rubbing that really aint supposed too. I amd gonna check the front axle fluid level, carrier and gears inside if they are seizing or anything, check transfluid, and just work my way from there. Any other suggestions because I have no idea what is making this noise, its either internal or something i couldnt see?
