  1. I would rather spend the money and do it right. I am no where even close to a mechanic so i have to pay for labor. So i would rather do it right once. Do you just not like full time lockers in the front? I am thinking of getting a full case locker. They just look more durable. But I cannot afford the selectable what i really want. We play in the mud and ride pretty steep trails which I think a locker would really benefit me. We rarely get snow so driving on the road in 4wd will be very rare. Pretty sure a locked rear will get me home safely. ;)
  2. Is this a really expensive upgrade as money is starting to wear thin....
  3. Mine is stock at the moment so i am assuming that its "disco". Everyone else is saying the spartan in 2wd you can't even tell its there. I just cannot afford a selectable one right now. Hope i don't have a bunch of problems.
  4. The selectable are just so expensive..... What's wrong with the Spartan? That was actually the way i was going to go. What are disco axles????? I have no clue if I have them or not.
  5. I am in the process of trying to buy all of this stuff not really knowing what to buy. Will you guys please help me with my shopping list for this swap. I am pretty sure i have the front down. New carrier to support 4.56 gears Spartan locker for 3.73 and higher Shim kit Ring and pinion 4.56 Now for the back is where I am a little lost and really need some help. I know i need leaf pearches but i don't know which ones to buy. (Reminding that i am swaping over to a 8.25) I looked at Rusty's but I have no clue which ones to buy. I also need Shock plates???? Once again this is where i am lost. If anyone could give me a link or part number to search on so I make sure I get the right stuff I would really appreciate it. And if there is anything else that I need to make this as smooth as possible would be really helpful as these guys doing the work like to get paid a boo-koo of money per hour. I just want to show up with everything that I am going to need and it be the correct stuff. Thanks again guys for everything. If you need any information from me please just ask. I am ready to get this done!!!!!!!!
  6. are there any advantages to a full case locker like a grizzly or detroit vs the aussie or spartans which go in a carrier?
  7. Decided to go with front locker.... Now which one is the question.... Looking at about a 400 dollar budget
  8. So does my shopping list sound correct to support the front end with this 8.25 swap.... 1. Carrier that will support 4.56 gears 2. New spider gears for carrier size 3. 4.56 ring and pinion or full case locker and ring and pinion
  9. yeah thats what i would like to do.... But they are a grand.. I will litterly get killed by the wife if I spend all of the money i want to. With a spartan i still have to buy a carrier. anyone use a Eaton Detroit Truetrac Differential Steel 912A585 Dana 30 27 Spline Image not availablePhotos not available for this variation<style type="text/css">.vi-hide-mImgThr {display: none;}</style><img id="icImg" class="img img500" itemprop="image" src="http://i.ebayimg.com/t/Eaton-Detroit-Truetrac-Differential-Steel-912A585-Dana-30-27-Spline-/00/s/NDAwWDMzOQ==/z/yjUAAMXQAwNRD9no/$(KGrHqRHJEcFEKzI)iDhBRD9noiwkw~~60_12.JPG" style="" clk="" />
  10. Offensive to the real jeep community
  11. I am torn now whether or not to install front lockers. Do they make a locker that you can manually engage? Or are all of them full time Also what are the pro's and cons... Thanks again for all of you guy vast knowledge you share with rookies like me..... By the way I have an 88 MJ 4.0 with 33's. I deal with more mud than rocks. In the process of rear end swap to 8.25 locked with 4.56 gears. Plan on keeping the D30 up front.
  12. Randy's never called me back..... I am assuming that when I replace the carrier to support 4.56 gears I will have to replace the spider gears too. I am just trying to get a price range on how much this swap is gonna cost me... As I have said before..... The jeep emblem should be the $ sign.
  13. Thanks bro!!!!! You're the best!!!!!!!!!
  14. my good friend has 300 acres thats where we wheel at... If all else the big green tractor would have came and got me.
  15. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!! I will try when i get off work. They have photobucket blocked from our internet.... :fs1:
  16. I am going to give them a call today and i will let everyone know what they say. Go check out it the pub "why you need a winch and lockers". Buried 37 inches deep in mud.
  17. The main problem was that the one tire that was spinning in the back was up in the air. I had no traction. The only tire that wanted to spin was the front left. And that was PURE quick sand. This was an innocent looking 2 foot wide creek. But stock gears don't like the mud. Cannot wait to get my 8.25 locked with 4.56 gears installed. I don't think i would have gotten stuck then. :???: But all in all it was fun as crap.... nothing a a chain and another truck couldnt handle getting out.... Winch and brush guard and next in line after i get my rear end installed and gears. . :MJ 1: .
  18. Luckly no "known" damage..... ;) Thanks Pete on the pictures.... ill go play in the test fourm tomorrow again. all in all a good sunday. Have a great night guys.
  19. Hey guys, I still cannot figure out the way to make picutes appear without the link. But here are a couple picutes of what an innocent creek done. My front bumper is 37 inches off the ground. Laughs on me guys....
  20. [/img] I swear..... This thing is making me feel like a complete idiot.
  21. Thanks Biotex........ So just tell them I need a "thick ring gear" and this should work out with the factory carrier?
  22. [/img] i cannot figure out how to get the straight picture to post without a link
