  1. I don't know as I haven't seen any pictures yet. He T-Boned a Ford Explorer and both were totaled. I think I'll pass since the radiator is probably blow and who knows what else happened. If he were rear ended it might be a different story...
  2. I don't know what I was thinking... it is a 4x4... Does that change the equation?
  3. A friend of mine just wrecked (totaled) his 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport (4.0L, 4x2, Auto, 56K miles) and can buy the salvaged car for $1200 from the insurance company. He doesn't want to buy it, but offered it to me. As I have a 1988 Jeep Comanche (4.0, 4x2, Manual), I was wondering if any of the mechanical parts would be of any use. I've considered a 4X4 swap in the past, but his is an Auto and I have a manual. Regardless, before I let it slip away, I thought I'd run it by you guys first. Oh, the damage is to the front of the car, but I don't know the full extent other than it was bad enough for the airbags to go off. Thanks. Clarke
  4. Hey guys, where is the best place to buy a clutch kit for my 1988 Jeep Comanche 4.0L? It's a Peugot tranny. Thanks guys...
  5. So from what donor car can I get the NV3500?
  6. So, what you're saying is I need to plan on a new rear end, tranny, transfer case, and drive shaft, right? I don't know if I can wait that long, so I might just "waste" money on a new clutch for the Peugot tranny for now and then deal with the swap in the future... Decisions, decisions... I was really hoping to use the limited slip transfer case from a Cherokee Limited. I've been told it'll work with the AX15. Hopefully this would work.
  7. Well, it looks like I need a new clutch... I currently have a 1988 MJ 4.0 4x2 5-speed (Peugot). I would like to convert it over to a 4x4, and right now would be the time to start that process... Unfortunatly, I don't have the time or facilites for a full blown conversion right now. So, what parts should be changed over so I do not duplicate efforts? I understand that I should probably find a good 4x4 AX15 (is that the right one?) tranny and do a tranny remove/replace since I'm paying for the clutch labor anyways. If I do this, there isn't any "wasted" labor or parts, right? After the tranny is in, I can come back and add the front and rear axles and transfer case, right? Also, worst case, if I need to put in a new clutch/pressure plate, is the clutch/pressure plate the same for the AX15 and the Peugot? Thanks. Clarke
  8. Hello all, can someone recommend a good mechanic in the Charlotte NC or Greenville, SC area for a clutch swap? What is a fair price for the labor on a clutch? Thanks in advance.
  9. Assuming that's it, I basically need a new clutch at this point, right? Would now be the time to swap in that transfer case I've always wanted, or are can that be done in the future? Thanks. Clarke
  10. Fluid is fine, No problems getting in gear. It only clicks when the clutch is out. It clicks marginally with the clutch out and the tranny in neutral. It's much worse in gear 1,3 and 5.. 2 and four are worse than neutral, but not as bad as the others...
  11. I posted this at Yahoo, but I've only gotten one response so far. I thought I'd try here: Yesterday I started noticing a knocking noise from my 1988 Comanche. It's a 4.0 w/ 5 speed (peugeot). Regardless, the knocking noise got REALLY bad this evening. Basically, it's coming from the Tranny/Clutch, not the engine. Here are the symptoms. Clicking noise that is RPM dependent, Goes away when the clutch is disengaged (pedal on the floor), it's VERY loud in gears 1,3, and 5. Gears 2 and 4 is noisy too, but not as bad. If I'm in 3rd gear, the clicking is TERRIBLE once I let off the gas. To me it sounds like some sort of flywheel bolt that's come loose, but I figured I'd ask the group for advice. Thanks in advance! Clarke
  12. Do you know if the NP-242 is compatible with a manual tranny? I currently have a Peugeot 5 speed.
  13. Is it possible to use the transfer case from a full time 4x4 cherokee? Would the axles need to come from the same XJ? Before I go any further, is the full time 4x4 a piece of crap that I'm wasting time on? I don't plan of going rock climbing, I just want a good 4x4 for winter use. Thanks! Clarke
