I tow a boat behind my 1992 comanche. Braking was terrible before I added a set of helper springs. http://www.hellwigproducts.com/products ... efault.asp I actually found them at a pick and pull for $10. They have made a world of difference in the control and handling of my MJ while towing. boat/motor/trailer is shy of 3000lbs on a truck scale. MJ handles it no problem.

Guys - Do you have any suggestions for replacement motor mounts? Mine are toast and the vibration is starting to get to me.

I picked up this 1992 Jeep Comanche 2wd 4.0L about a year back for $1200. 154,000 miles and one female owner :) I use it to tow my boat around the Sac delta and around the bay. Just put on a set of Hellwig helper springs to weekend and it tows 100x better. I've learned a ton on the site already . . . thanks!! I found a pair of hellwig LP-15 helper springs at the pickn'pull this weekend from a ford ranger. Got them for $12 total . . . I bolted them onto my 92 comanche this weekend. The suspension is now super stiff. I regularly tow a 19ft boat about 10 miles each way to and from the ramp. The truck used to bounce all over and now it's solid as a rock. 100X better control and stopping power . . . I wish I'd done this sooner.

Pete - Thanks for posting all the pics and info. This post saved me a bundle. I've been towing around a boat with saggy MJ springs. I can't wait to bolt the Exploder springs on my truck. I almost bought the entire rear axle with disc brakes, but held back until I read up on the 8.8 MJ Conversion.

What's the Difference b/w "code F" springs from the 95' - 00 explorer and the "Code U" from the pre 95 explorers . . . I was at the junkyard today and I can't find any difference b/w the two springs. I bought the "F"'s but I was just curious . . . for anyone else that might read this thread.
