  1. I had bad death wobble, steering stab was shot, no death wobble at all since it's replacement. It's my hunch that some thing (or things) else is the root cause but a fresh steering stabilizer is keeping it under control.

    funny story

makes me wonder.... latest incident while commuting in the lil Honda - true story flying to work (45 minutes later than normal) on I-80 up the canyon thinking about my recent MJ sightings... suddenly around the next bend there is a silver shortbed pioneer with red/grey hockey stick trim! Next day... late again but only 10 minutes this time, merging onto I-80 from I-215 to head up the canyon and wondering to myself what the odds would be of seeing the same truck as yesterday, checking the mirrors to merge over and oh theres an MJ some distance behind coming up I-80 alright and it might be silver too. I decided to slow a little - he eventually caught up and passed me in the fast lane, sure enough it was the same truck! Now if can only harness that energy to attract somebody selling a clean HO 4WD shortbed with a dana 44 for dirt cheap... :D
  3. It begins! It's officially not a "pending" truck project anymore. An oppurtunity for my MJ to test fit some goodies has come about. Here is the results so far. 5" lift and rockrails. The soa is all bolt on, there is a bit left to do for the front end yet. This is a low priority project for me, the DD Honda and XJ get priority as they get me to work/play (... then there is the 66 Mustang project going on 10 years but maybe I should sell it and buy MJ parts.... :-D) I'm playing things by ear but for kicks I might just regear and auto lock that 35 and play around a bit before the 4WD conversion comes along.
  4. wow I had to dig for this thread! That's a good sign.... someone said to me just recently, don't see too many of them (MJ's) lifted. Just this last saturday I sighted a light tan or beige colored MJ with a good sized lift and tires, I'd guess 35"s, getting on the freeway. Then this morning while pulling out of my neighborhood along came a nice looking burgendy-ish colered lifted MJ, had some kinda work related emblems on his doors. he had to be wondering "why is that dude in the little honda staring?" :-D
  5. my leaf packs are the same, 4 w/ overload, stock lift measurements almost the same, right around 19" only a little shorter up front and taller out back.
  6. Alright a local! that article in JP gives a little info on what they had to do with the TNT kit. TNT was out at the NAXJA Fall Fling, provided some good stuff in the raffle.
  7. hah, just remembered a good friend of mine has a next door neighbor with a grey shortbed 2wd...
  8. When I bought my MJ, It only being two wheel drive led me to believe it wouldn't become a project either....
  9. I see a red longbed in the mornings headed in the opposite direction, I'd see it every morning if I left for work consistantly. Small town I commute to has a silver short bed frequently kept across the street from work, also a red longbed a kid who just graduated highschool drives and a black or dark colored one I see at the highschool parking lot occasionaly. I know of a couple within a mile of home, and I've seen as many as five different MJ's in one day driving around the Salt Lake Valley. I know where some friends live in an apartment complex, in the parking lot there is a white long bed sporting a 44 in the rear thats been there the last couple years.
  10. Ive watched a bit of it in the past, (lately I fall alseep) but I like watching a good wreck, I'll occasionally root for Jeff Gordon, I don't know why, because he has road coarse skills or maybe because he can talk normal (as one comedian put it)?
  11. I think I'm leaning towards what Hatchet plans, have the same drivetrain w/ AX4, What is the scoop on the AX5 vs the AX15?
  12. Just got my copy of JP and was pleasanlty suprised to find an MJ on page 68. Looks like they picked it up for $500 as a daily driver and did a little article on it.
  13. Timely post, I need to reaserch this topic as well So far I've only got a front axle cut from a rolled 89 XJ but it's missing shafts on one side, my thinking at the time was I wanted to upgrade the shafts and joints in it any way. I've been debating back and forth on finding a good 4.0 aw4 np231 doner XJ or keeping it 2.5 for budget
  14. I've been on NAXJA for a while now. Though I get the yahoo group e-mail, been waiting for a good Comanche specific forum. Here is my 87 2wd 2.5 4 speed short bed, For some reason it felt like I needed to buy this truck. It was in dirty awful condition on the inside and there are some obvious repairs especially around the bed and a rusty hole in a floorboard but I picked it up without even test driving it, just felt right. This MJ pulled daily driver duties for me most of the summer last year. Now it waits patiently for my plans for it to solidify. So far I've only just cleaned it up a bit, threw out the old nappy cloth bench for a hardly used vinyl one, and slapped on my XJ wheels. the day I brought it home, spring 04' A few months ago Future plans include a YJ bolt on SOA for the rear and something appropriate up front, then it is going to need a 4wd conversion, tires and lockers (etc etc etc ) so it can serve as my rig for IC chapter NAXJA runs, as well as any activities this forum might plan out west.
