PMs are stuck in the outbox
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in Forum Issues, Ideas, Testing
Thanks Rob. I actually tried to PM aaronbtxnc about the t-shirts and caps---twice---and those are still in the Outbox. -
There's an article on one of the forums here that describes how to modify buckets from a 4 dr XJ if I can get a set of these brackets. I'm looking for two pairs--enough to do two buckets. Here's the thread viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16295 Looks like the tilt brackets need to be from a '97 or later XJ 2 door. Thanks

The color doesn't matter. I'm going to recover it. Mine is pretty busted up with several weak spots. I can send a shipping label if you'll ship it. Otherwise I'm willing to do a little traveling. Thanks BTW-My PMs are stuck in the Outbox right now so I might reply in this thread.

I even tried to PM someone different (Pete) but that PM won't go either. Am I missing something simple? Thanks Pat

XJ parts for MJs
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK I confess. I am so unobservant... It's this thread that I was looking for: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=29175&start=0 Of course it's a sticky at the top of the Thread called "Some General MJ Info and FAQs" That's right-it's a sticky at the top of that list. Tanks for the other link though--very helpful as well. -
XJ parts for MJs
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
actually, this isn't what I remember seeing, but it looks really useful. Thanks -
I'm sure I saw thread when I first joined this forum that had a good list of specific parts that interchange between MJ and XJ. I understand that more or less from the cab forward all is good. I know about the bucket seat brackets. I just read a post somewhere that said that the doors from a 4 dr XJ work on an MJ. That wasn't what I remembered reading so I started looking for the post. Can anyone help me find this? I promise I'll bookmark it this time. :=)

Some General MJ Info and FAQs
jamespwsullivan replied to Boilermaker's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
If you're still around, what happened to the link below? What parts from a Cherokee can I use on my MJ? no hyperlink to anything. thanks -
Even if you looked at the door plungers and the lights themselves, you might try a Scotchbrite pad on everything you can get to. I just did a complete rehab of everything in this system except for the fuse panel. I even re-bent the contact surfaces on the light fixtures themselves.

comfortable seats in MJ?
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks shelbyluvv... my86mj - Are you talking about seats from your XJ? My understanding is that the issue with XJ seats IS the seat bracket and that's why you sit much higher. That's why i want to move to an XJ seat with the MJ bracket as outlined in the forum article in my first post. Sorry, just didn't quite get what you're saying. -
comfortable seats in MJ?
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Redrocker... Thanks. I was thinking XJ seats were my only option. Shelbyluvv... This is exactly what I was looking for! I can handle all of the process I'm pretty sure. Are the tilt brackets just out of a '97 or later two door XJ or are there other options? -
I have looked over the helpful article on using XJ seats in an MJ here: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8093 and now I'm wondering about picking the best seat for the changeover. What is the most comfortable . adjustable (lumbar support etc.) seat from the XJ that would work in this situation? I have a 1987 MJ with buckets converting to buckets. I'm not very familiar with XJ levels and option packages but I'm hoping one of you out there is. I'm not mechanically challenged but I don't weld...that's why the above article sounded like a good option. AND I need a really good quality seat or my back will never make it in the MJ long term. Thanks

steering wheel interchange?
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have the beigey-tan color. not sure the official name for it. What's the stock wheel look like? Prior to this Jeep the oldest one I've owned is a 96 XJ. Thanks -
steering wheel interchange?
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks Pete M and cruiser54. I would prefer avoiding the lace on kits-I don't like the feel of them. Picky picky! They are certainly a backup. I don't do any serious off-roading so the stretch on cover (QuadraTech) would probably work just fine. I was just trying to find out what other wheels would fit. -
I have a 1987 MJ base model. It currently has a three spoke sporty looking steering with the outer covering (grip) similar to my '96 XJ. if you've had a steering wheel like that you know that it eventually rots/wears away and gets sticky. the MJ's isn't too bad but I would like to start looking for a replacement. Can anyone give me some guidance about what I need to be looking for? I would like to stay with Jeep wheel if possible, but I'm open to ideas. Thanks pat

inside cab lighting
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You guys are the best! Since I'm doing this work in my driveway and it's going to rain all week, I'll post after I get this looked at over the weekend. I found the link to the download for that 1988 electrical manual so I have the ground plane as well. It pays to spend some time in the forums. -
They don't have to be perfect, but the cleaner the better. Interior I'm trying to match is tan and I don't know what that is in Jeep-speak. Beige? Sand? Thanks

1987 Jeep Comanche probably the base model with options 4.0 l I-6; transmission not yet identified but likely a BA10/5; axles unknown but likely Dana 30 front and Dana 35 rear; long bed No sticker remains on the driver's side door jamb (and I sure wish it was still there!) located in Indianapolis, IN on the road, very driveable exterior color is AMC - BASF R-M auto paints 16271; factory code AB interior is tan - not sure what that is in factory-speak vinyl/cloth bucket seats floor shift There may be some options installed, but I am still researching. owner is Pat Sullivan

inside cab lighting
jamespwsullivan replied to jamespwsullivan's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah. I've done all of the easy trouble shooing i can think of. With the fixture out of the trim panel there is power on the pink wire when i ground the test light. The other two wires (both black w/ white) should be the ground and the pass through of the ground to the other light. Neither completes the circuit so I looked at the door jamb switch. it doesn't ground either. -
I'm trying to fix my interior lights. I'm talking about the ones mounted high up behind the doors. These are the only interior lights other than the glove box and instrument cluster. There is power to the lights but they will not come on. I'm pretty sure that the issue is with the ground in the door jamb switch. If I'm right about this, when I attach my test light to a positive both sides (with the door open) should complete the circuit to ground and the light should come on. If that's correct, where does the door jamb switch go to ground? I think I found its connection to the harness in the dash, but where it goes after that is anyone's guess. Secondary question-I have a "complete" service manual on CD but I can't find any electrical schematics! Can anyone direct me to a source for those? Any ideas are welcome. Thanks
