  1. So I picked up the MJ last week and over the few days I got some things done. Interior stripped out and scrubbed. Installed kick panel, ash tray, cigarette lighter lights. Guage cluster swap. I have an XJ dome light with map lights and a comp/temp rear view mirror still needing to be wired in. I hope to have it on the road next week. I have new bilstein shocks ready to be installed. I am looking for a nice factory rear step bumper and a few other odds and ends to put on. The floors have "rot" but nothing bad. I plan on putting the new floor pans in this summer. The drivers door has a spot where it was toutched up. The pass fender is bubbeling pretty bad. Above the flaires has a few bubbles starting to show. Tailgate has rust on bottom lip and in the back where the weld is. In a few years I plan on restoring the MJ before it gets too bad but for now its just gonna be patched and driven daily. I also need to figure out where a vacume leak is coming from and making a whistle. Here is a few pics of the progress so far...
  2. Looking for an origional drop in bedliner for my short bed 88. Send me a PM. Thanks, Gary
  3. apparently the cluster i have is not near as common as the idiot light clusters. I will post a up a pic (if i can figure out how to.)
  4. I need a tailgate and pass fender in red from a pioneer with graphics. I know its a long shot but worth a try. Also need a BA 10 shifter for my MJ.
  5. Today I messed with the connection, got the tach to work. However, once the dash lights come on the reading on the guages drop all the way down and the turn signal and highbeam lights are illuminated. I plugged the old cluster in and it was fine. I'm gonna look for another cluster. Although it was fine yesterday except for the tach, my thoughts are there is a bad connection on this cluster. Thanks for all the input guys. Gary
  6. Correct Eagle, I have the cluster pushed back in place but not screwed in. I will try the connection and see if its that. If not, gonna get another cluster. Thanks for the input fellas!
  7. My 88 MJ had guages but no tach. So i grabbed a cluster out of a 89 XJ and swapped it in. Everything works but the tach isnt. Am i missing something? Also, The temp guage rises when the key is turned but when the the truck starts it goes all the way down... sensor? Gary
  8. Ok they're working!! But man are they sensitive!! Cleaned the contacts up a bit and they work. Only thing is they don't come on when opening the pass door. Will replace the door pin. I am going to switch the ergonomincs soon. Thanks for the help fellas!! Gary
  9. yep I tried all positions. I tried all positions and tried turning the interior lights on, nothing. I have looked at the past posts on this issue but nothing that seems to stand out. I checked the "dome light" fuse that was fine. I'm looking at the light and them seem ok not corroded or in bad shape. What positions are door, off, and on? Like up down and what not. Thanks Gary
  10. I just picked the Jeep up today, got it home and started tinkering with it. The interior is stripped out and in the bed. I went threw and found the pilar lights and plugged them in. However I can't get them to turn on. They arent coming on with the door open or with the headlight knob turned. I checked the dome light fuse and it was fine.. Any ideas? Also, I grabed a set of kick panel lights from a 89 xj wagonner at the local U-Pull and they arent matching up with the connector for my 88 pioneer. I grabbed a pair from a 89 and 90 xj so I'm guessing I need them out of a 88? Any thoughts? Gary
  11. I am almost positive its your slave. Good luck..
  12. I just bought an 88 MJ Pioneer 4.0 a/c 5spd buckets...and will be picking it up next saturday. I got into the construction ind. a couple years ago and could really use a truck. My 94 YJ wasnt too comfortable either for a DD and I will be re building my YJ in the near future to a YJ-8. So i needed a daily driver. I searched craigslist and found this one. Has some rust mainly in the floor pans. A small spot under the bed and coming up above the rear flare, pass side fender has some bubbeling. Truck comes with new floor pans and i plan on doing them this summer. I will do a quick patch job to get me threw the rest of the winter. The interior is filthy and in the bed as the seller was planing on doing the floor pans. When i get it home I plan on cleaning the hell out of it and giving it a nice tune up. It needs a new shifter since the trans was out of YJ. It has full gages not the lights but no tach, so i will be swapping in a different guage cluster. I like the bucket seats and the matching rear cap. It has a new 3.5" RE super ride lift with a flowmaster exhaust and new 31"BFG all terrains. Some small odds and ends like a fatory rear step bumper and a new radio and fixing the non working rear speakers. I saw alot of ideas on this site, like new interior lights ect that i plan on doing. Mainly i want to get it up and running great and cleaned in a few weeks so i can start using it for my horrible work commute. When summer comes around i will dig in and start protecting and preserving the jeep to last. here's a couple pics..
