To start will I have a 1988 renix 4.0 jeep Comanche, and the exhaust is rusted out completely. I know my only choice for a aftermarkets header is the pace setter so I'm going to go with that first of all. Also I'm going to put a cheap high flow cat performance curve on it too. As for the muffler I don't know what to go with, I want a deep sound. I want it to be loud with out being super loud. From the videos I have seen on you tube the flowmaster is a bit to high pitched and the magnaflow sounds deeper. what would yall suggest? and what series of what model muffler, If you could attach sound links to those that u suggest on the older 4.0, so I can see what it will sound like that would be AWESOME! ANOTHER QUESTION.... what is the stock exhaust size? and should I run bigger pipe from the header than stock? would I notice anything from this? (sound,power,torque...) I think thats about all I have guys, please let me know your input. Reply With Quote

Please edit into your signature what model/year/engine/etc. MJ you have so we don't have to guess. Since you say "long and skinny" radiator I ASSume you have the 4.0 I6. If that is the case, then do as lostissues says; purchase the 10-blade electric late model fan. Draws more amps on startup, but pulls about 50% more air than the older square 5-bladers. And I'm not comfortable using aftermarket fans; I'd rather get a used low-mileage fan from the yard than from an offshore marketeer. Who knows what the specs on those things are. :dunno: Sure, Sorry about that. Yes I have the 4.0/auto.I want to add the fan to the stock 1 mechanical fan set up also, I would like to hook up the fan on a switch. So the 97-01 fan will fit? It just looks bigger than 12inches in the picture. will I have to modify the shroud or will it slide in fine and fit with no clearance issues. Also What gauge wire should I use to wire it and what size relay? -

looking to put a electric fan in, What should I get? I have a 1988 Mj with no ac, so it doesn't come with a electric fan just mechanical. My mj will stay under 210 sitting in traffic and about 190 or lower on the highway or crucing around town. but it starts to get above 210 when in really soft sand and its having to work hard to get through it and only averaging about 10-15 mph. basicly I have check thed fan cluch, it is fine and there is no air in the system. I beilev the cooling system is working fine, it just can't pull trough enough air when going about 10 miles per hour at high rpms. I'm on the beach every weekend, so I am looking into putting a electric fan in the location of where the stock electric fan would go if it had ac. SO the question is what should I use, I don't want to spend a bunch on this, maybe under 100$, but I want the most cfm I can get for my money. Also I do not want any junk yard parts. I would really like a bolt on kit.

Zebvance replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The clutch is not slipping, I will try to flush the system though. and there is no air in it and the radiator is not clogged to my knowledge. But like I said I run pretty cool around town and idialing, and down the high way. Prob at about 180. its only when its under a heavy load going about 15 mph. oh and here is the truck. -

I spend most of my time crusing up and down the beach that I grew up at going fishing and booze crusing. Any way I have a 1988 mj 4.0 with the closed loop system and If I crusie around the beach in 2wd It starts to get in between normal and overheating, putting it in 4x4 helps and lowers the temps because Its not having to work as hard to get through the sand but still have gotten hot in some soft sand. However I can cruse around town and sit at a idle all day long and for the most part stay under normal, but thats as off right now in 80 degree heat. I live in texas and It gets HOT, so I don't know how the truck runs in 110 degree heat yet. I was looking at dirt bound offroads triple electric fan kit. however from what I have heard the stock mechanical fan puts out around 4000 cfm with is what dirt bounds kit does also. I guess what I'm looking for it was is my best cheapest way to beef up the cooling. I already am In the works for adding louvers but am not sure if that is going to be enough. -
I would say around 4. That is one good looking truck.

1988 Comanche gas mileage. 10 mpg?
Zebvance replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yea that's what I read too. Idk why but mine has a 14 gallon tank. There is no way I can get more that 14 gallons out of it. hmmmm, maybe the fuel gauge isn't reading properly or the float is stuck and you're not actually at empty when it says. :dunno: the tank on my 88 MJ does the same thing, only 14 gallons till empty.. but the gauge moves from full to empty throughout the use of one tank of gas. That is exactly what mine does -

I have a 1988 keep Comanche. Just got it about a week or two a go. It has stock gears and a auto tranny 4wd. It has a 4.5 inch lift and 31/11.50/15's. From filling up I'm guessing has about a 14 or so gallon tank. When I went to fill up again I looked at my trip and how much has I had used. I had used 13.1 gallons and got 144 miles to the 13.1 gallons. That sucks. It was all city driving also. The engine has 103,000 miles. Is this gas mileage normal for this set up on stock gears? On highway it really dosent have much more in it at 70 mph. Could I expect better or worst mpg on highway?

WTB lift parts and visor clips. College station Texas I have a 4.5 inch RC lift on my Comanche but it sits at a rediculious rake. I wanted to lift it 2 more inches in the front to level it out. 6.5 inches total in front. I need some parts. And here is what I'm looking for. Adjustable upper and lower control arms. 2 inch coil spacers or 6.5 inch coils if they are cheap enough. 6.5 or 4.5 inch sway bar links ( quick disconnect preferred) I am currently tuning stock sway bar set up on drop bracket. 6.5 inch drop pitman arm. I believe that is it. I also am looking for the sun visor clips that are on the headliner right above the rear view mirror. Can do pick up with in 100 miles depending on what part it is. I am currently in college station Texas.

1988 canadian Mj in the great state of Texas

Can anybody help me out with the lift info? -
Hey everybody just picked up My first MJ. and thought I would share. Its from canada, so it has a block warmer and the whole gauge cluster is is metric units. I thought it was neat. Any way It has a 4.5 inch rough country lift and it sits a a pretty bad rake so I plan on lifting the front 2 more inches. It has 164000 KM witch works out to 101000 miles. Its got a 4.0, with auto trans and a short bed. Here is a few pictures. I will also be making a bed cage, and bumpers soon for it. I also neew to find the parts to lift it two more inches in the front and from what I have gathered up its going to cost me like 600 bucks... So If anybody has any of the parts used that they will sell at a good price i would be interested. From what I have researched I need adjustable upper and lower control arms, a adjustable trac bar. Longer sway bar links(they ones i have now are stock but the sway bar is on drop brackets(, a new drop pitman arm, and coil spacers. Place correct me if I'm wrong about any of that. the kit that came with the truck already has long enough shocks, and brake lines for 6.5 inches of lift. and a lengthen drive shaft for the rear. Anyway here are some pictures. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/attachment ... -small.jpg
