  4. hi all, so i have a 2WD 87 comanche pioneer with the 4.0, 5 speed...its my daily driver as of now but as we all know we have to upgrade! so here's the thing i don't know much about the MJ's or what type of trans or front and rear axel came on this particular year and model i don't believe anything has been modified on it so it should all be stock just kinda wondering what i have now and what to start looking for to build the ultimate 4X4 i would still like to be able to drive it down the road so nothing crazy but i would like to know what kind of trans and transfer case would be best and what axels and gears would be best I'm thinking i want to go with 4.10 gears seems like thats the way most people go...but any info would be good just going on the search for some parts to get a project going this winter so if yall could point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated thanks for ur help! will post pics when i get my camera working!

  8. hi all, i have an 87 comanche 4.0 i have to replace the push rods and i was just wondering if anybody knows to correct specs to torque the nuts down after i get all the rods replaced? thanks for the help
  9. so i just took the valve cover off my 87 comanche because i heard some funny noises coming from it, turns out i have atleast one bent pushrod maybe even more just wasnt able to take them out yet to fully check them out. i was wondering what could cause the bent rod because i don't want to put a new push rod in and have it bent again the minute i start it up...was wondering if it may be a stuck valve?? if so how do i check and how would i go about replaceing it?? thanks for any info :wrench:
  10. i will also be posting pics soon, and am in the process of tearing out all that carpet! (sounds like everybody on here says its a good idea lol)
  11. hi there! so i just recently bought a 87 comanche pioneer for 600$ not running, i replaced the fuel pump and filter and that got it going today i cleaned out my throttle body and IAC valve because it was all gummed up and my accelerator cable wasnt retracting so that got it to work, now it runs and gas pedal works...it runs a little rough sounds like a little bit of knocking coming from under the valve cover but idk any suggestions? also she smokes alot now it has been sitting for quite a while when i rescued it so i don't know if its buring some old oil or what also when its ideling it sounds kinda rough any suggestions would be great just trying to get her running smooth is all...i am very new to the MJ so keep it simple as possible lol I'm still learning but can't wait to move on to the next thing! thanks for all your help
  12. just got done, took the throttle body off cleaned it out real good, it was pretty bad and that was the main reason it was sticking. now the gas pedal works and the throttle body moves freely thanks!!! only thing is after i hooked up the linkage that connects directly to the throttle body lever it is now inhibiting it from closing all the way but i take it off and bam works fine could that lever be inhibiting it from going all the way closed somehow??? :???:
  13. Thanks for the reply! ive checked the throttle body and it springs back in place only problem with that is it is a little sticky and won't go all the way to idle and sticks a 1/4 the way open i assume i need to free it up a bit..ive also checked the cable that goes to the pedal and it was not connected and just hanging there so i connected it but it still doesnt retract by itself i think maybe the cable itself between the throttle body and pedal is broken somewhere i guess idk....
  14. hi there, i just recently bought a 1987 jeep comanche pioneer it has the inline 6, 5 speed, 2WD. When i bought it, it wouldnt run and the guy said when he tried to start it last he pushed the gas pedal to the floor and then it just stayed there. as of yesterday i got the truck running after i replaced the fuel pump now I'm on the the next which is the gas pedal I'm thinking its just a spring issue but idk I'm new to the MJ but have had jeeps all my life and this is my new project I'm tyring to build cheap so any suggestions would be helpful thank you very much!!! :help:
