Spring Perch issue on dana 35
Airsuperiority replied to Airsuperiority's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hey Pete- Circling back here. What would your advice be on using one spacer on the passenger rear for a DD. Still trouble shooting the issue and have been super busy so I am just now getting back to it. I feel if I go with two spacers then i’m still gonna have the left side sticking out further and further exacerbating the thrust line issue. Looking into new bushings and u bolts also. I also need to measure the perches to make sure they are 42 inch center to center. Thanks -

I measured from the drum to the edge of each perch bracket and on one side it is 4 1/2 inches and the other side it is 5 inch. To me, that means that the welded brackets are a half inch off or at least one of them is. -

Thats strange though now? The bushings were new with the 1 ton leaf kit I put on 2 years ago. Seems kind of fast... -

the schackles seem fine but i can see some sway in the u-bolts. i provided a pick of just the drivers side u-bolt. Its hard to tell if the perches were welded on wrong or not. I know that they were welded on because it is not factory welding on them. might i be able to run just one spacer on the side that rubs or do i need to run two? -

the space between tires and frame is 1 and 1/2 inches driver side rear and 1 inch pass side rear. -

they are leaning enough to see that the axle looks shifted towards the driver side. the leaf springs are only 2 years old so the bushings should be alright. -

it’s probably more like almost an inch. it is visible from the rear that the left tire is sticking out more than the right tire. the right tire is pretty close to the frame. -

thanks Pete. which bushings are you referring to. Also, I have been looking for a pair of 1.25 spacers. -
Alright, the saga of random crap that is wrong with my MJ continues! I recently put on a set of beautiful turbines. As you guys probably know, the backspacing is quite different than aftermarket wheels. Well, it turns out that my leaf spring perches must be welded on in uneven spacing because passenger side rear tire (31x10.5) sits close enough to the frame that I can see signs of rubbing. I assume this is occurring during flex or turns. The distance from inside bas of drum to outside perch on driver side is 5 3/8 in and the distance from same location to location on passenger side is 5 in. Is this normal? From my alignment diagnosis my thrust angle is -0.58 degrees. The axle seems shifted towards the driver side. Never noticed this issue until I put stock rims on the wider tires.

Hey guys, I know this has been discussed previously but I wanted to ask for an updated thread. I have a nice pair of turbines I would like to throw on. I have a 3 inch lift, 31 10.5 15 BFGs and 4.10 gearing (would love to stick with the 31s). Does anyone have the specific link for the wj controls arms? Do I even need them? My front axle is from a TJ I am pretty sure but the lower control arms I currently have are oem MJ. Thanks!

Welp, the one I got at the junkyard seems to be dead. If you end up finding a working one I’d be happy to purchase from you.

Hey thanks for your reply. No need though. I just found one at a junkyard here in CA. Forgot to post. Thanks again!

Ah I see. Did you change ECMs then? I think I’m going to put the 429 in instead.
-
I just had the same issue with the 428 Ecm swap. Can’t get a closed loop and the O2 sensor was only 3k miles old. Did the new sensor do the trick? How long has it lasted with the new Ecm?

REM reading =153-165F IR gun ECT= 188.9 ST= fluctuating 165-183 LT= 128 IP width= 5.6-5.8 at idle This is all at Closed Loop. I just put in an 89 ecu so I’m hoping once it gets used to my engine idle circuit it will get to closed loop faster. The O2 sensor could need some cleaning though as the truck just drove from NY to LA. -

So I used an IR gun on the TSTAT housing and it read 193 after a drive. Seems fairly close to the gauge reading on the dash. My water temp reading on the renix engine module reader says 156 though. I don’t really know enough about why that could be reading so low. Anybody have any ideas? -
Anyone have a manual 89/90 ECM EF8953005429 they’d be willing to part with? Thanks!

Yeah, i had suspected that. But the REM reader I thought reads from a different sensor. Could be wrong. They both are low. Ill try the TSTAT though and see what happens -

I’ll look into those then. Thanks! I ordered a IR reader for now. -
