Fuel sending unit stuck in the tank????
KCsurfer420 replied to KCsurfer420's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
so I finaly droped the tank and got the pump out... you were right when you said that the strainer might be sill be stuck in the tank and after dousing my hand in gas i have gotten it out of the tank and the fuel pump back in the tank properly but now I'm having a diffrent problem... my pump isint turning on... Does any one know how many volts i am supost to be geting at the fuel pump plug? I tested it but it seems that i am geting 6 1/2 volts to the pump. I don't feel like this this is what I'm supost to be getting :???: at the plug... some one chime in here and let me know... on a nother note i did get the door open. -
Yeah the xj waz fun while it lasted but 2 weeks after i sold her the new owner roled it on a trail run we were on and it is now undergoing a truggie buld.... so atleast she's on her way back to life... But i see it this way, I had to make room for the comanchie and becides xj's are a dime a dozen.....There almost as popular around here as the wranglers...And on the door i was thinking about pulling the fender to get to the hinges but i think I'm gonna atack the fuel pump issue ive been having. Ill post up some more pic's this afternoon. now i just need to stay focused, I also have an 80 cj7 that I'm finaly restoring from the ground up so ill be a bussy little man the next few weeks but i have motivation so it shouldent be a problem

Peugeot 2WD to AX15/231 Conversion
KCsurfer420 replied to cracker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
hey, Tell your friend nice truck!!! but this should be super easy, most of what you have said is in fact true. it's not the cross member that won't work, it's the transmission-specific mount. so make sure you pick up one for ax-15. but i don't see you having any other problems. -
So I just returned from San Diego Ca and now its time to jam back on the MJ more posts and pics soon to come on a seprate note i can't get the passanger door open i knoe the rods havent fallen off the latches because i can feel the restance on the latches and yes i have it unlocked and one know of any way to get it open with out traring the inside pannel off?

So I have an 88 Mj short bed that i am in the middle of converting over to 4x4 . It has a 4.0 aw4 and a 231 in it now. My problem just started recently when I droped my my off at the paint shop to get repainted and i left it over there for about three months while i left to San Diego Ca for work. I just recently picked up the mj and she wouldent start. So we pushed her on to the trailor and off we went. After i got her home i did get it to start but it seems like it was only firing on three cylinders. It has a new cpt,tps and so on and ive been through most of the wiring allready. I don't curently have a preasure tester but it wasent spiting any fuel out of the valve on the rail so i belive i have it pined down to the pump  . I had picked up a spare sending unit out of an 89 mj at a junk yard a while back and since my fuel gauge never worked before i decided i would change it out. Becides i had replaced the oump on the jy sending unit a while back in preporation for the install. Today I got under the truck to day to get the new sending unit. I got the old unit out and now i see why the guage never worked the sending unit was non exzistant :???:. So out with the old and in with the new right? well it wasent that easy, I placed the pump in to the tank and no matter how i tried to get it in to place it just would not get in to place to install the lock ring :dunno:. After comparing it to the other sending unit i have concluded that it is the identical sending unit. It seems that there is something at the bottom of the tank just in the spot that the pump needs to be that is holding it out just a bit. After fooling with it for what seems to be ALL Day i have sucessfully goten the sending stuck in the tank WTF no matter how i wiggle it i can get it out from under the tabs for the lock ring. Its stuck and theres no way to get the lock ring in the right way.... Any one else ever have this problem?I'm a little bit frustrated so ill go back at it tomorow. here's a pic of the truck

So where can i source a working fuel sending unit? I see that you guys are saying that the senders from the xj,s don't work in the mj's.... what is the diffrance? reason I'm asking is that my pump works fine but the guage has never worked... I was thinking about pulling it out and taking some emeory colth to the contacts.... I'm hoping this will solve my problems....... hum :???: -
So ive been a little bussy latly, I am curently geting ready for a move from tx to San Diego CA.... so work has prity much come to a stand still on the comanche.... but i will post some more when i get around to it so just hold tite and ill get back to it soon.... on a good note i made a nice rear bumper and corner guards/light boxes for the comanchie...... the turned out great....

Rember the Stock e-fan comes on when the truck turns on, and then theres still the two speed fan on hi and low... so its three speeds.... and I'm sure i got the right water pump..... I'm puzzled... but it was doing the same thing before i eaven replaced all of the cooling parts.... hence the quest to fix it...... and as far as the routing i used the write up off of go jeep and the install came out very nice...... so thats the way i went with my belt routing... i did however notice yesterdaay that the belt was singing when i turned on the AC and gave it a little gas...... the radiators brand new and the system was flushd....... :wall: i just want to wheel this thing and it seems like she isent liking the idea....

I have a 1988 jeep comanche that i bought about 4 months ago with a 4.0 aw4 with 220k on the clock. I bought the truck as a project and it was not running due to a bad starter. Fast forward I have converted over every thing to 4x4 with a aw4/321 combo and a 8.8 and a hp30. I have fixed, changed or replaced the following, New plugs, wires, oil change new cps, water pump,195 stant thermostat, new 3 core radiator(csf)(closed system), both hoses new oil sending unit and temp sender( i swaped from lights to guages), Tightened down the manifolds,Installed a seprate trans cooler in front of the radiator, replaced the clutch fan with a taurus 2 speed fan and i wired the stock e-fan to come on any time the truck is on( the wiring was a mess when i got it) I also had the system flushed before i installed the radiator.... now my problem is when the truck is sitting at idle in my drive way the temp will climb up to open the thermostat it will open but after a few miniutes with the stock fan running and the taurus fan on low the temp climbes to a steady 230to 240. If i turn the fan on high it will cool it down to about 220 and hold that temp for as long as i keep the taurus fan on hi. now for the weird part IF i turn the tauraus fan back on low and let the temp climb back to 230 to240 and turn the AC on The temp will almost instantly show that its cooling down to 210 and will stay there untill i turn the ac off, but once its off i have to turn the fan back on hi or it emidiatly starts to get uncomfortably hot.... I an scratching my head on this one and i need a 4.0 cooling guru to help me out as i am scratching my head on this one.... the only things that i can think of is maby a weak head gasket. but the truck runs fine, hot or not.... no stumbling or any thing, or I havent swaped out the newer style valve for the heater. I have searched but every one elses problem is the exzact oppisate of mine..... what do i do.... I still havent finished the truck as i am wating on the long arms and tires... but i wouls like to get this solved before i try and get it regestered..... Any help is greatly aprecieated...... thanks agian for looking......

Deep in the heart of Comanche County
KCsurfer420 replied to Comanche County's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
You have a way better buld going on hands down  I love your mj that is exzactly what mine looked like when i broght it home minus the lift and 4x4. :( so your in san antonio? I would love to wheel with you some time when i get mine road worthy..... i wish i had half of the goodies that you have for this buld.... -
so back to redzilla In one afternoon i pulled the trans out of redzilla, it was nasty dirty and installed the new trans and transfercase only to find i had a cracked fly wheel. I ordered one up in the next few days i had the trans out and the flexpalte in and every thing buttoned up. Can i just say I HATE doing trannys on the floor It is a major PITA... I have decided that i am going to run dual bateries and an incab winch controler. I found a realy nice one at 12Vguy.com its listed for a tj but...... I am seting up the bateries behind the drivers seat, the solenoid for the setup is where the factory speaker would have been... I am also installing a bunck of other eletrical circuts so i have allready done all of the witing so later down the road h can just plug and play. I have a your, two sets of lights on front one rear. I also wired in circuts for the ford taurus fan install that i am about to get in to. I also have a rockford fosgate 800w amp and a 12" kicker comp that is going behind the passangers seat.I ran two sets of 3/0 welding cables to the front where the winch is going to go lateron. I can honestly say that wiring is one of the most time consuming things... I use silver crimps and heat shrink every thing 3 times..... i like wiring but this one kicked my @$$...

well this isent my first rodeo, here are a few pics of my cherokee that i sold to start this one up... i had bult a triangulater four link in the rear using tj coils and radius style arms in the front.... i sure do miss her, but i can't complain i tradied it for a super clean cj5 with a 304 and resold it for 4500.... thats great when you consider that i bought the xj origonaly for 500.00 but i did put a lot of time and love in to it.... i may one day turn the comanche in to a truggie, but for now i just want something i can moderatly wheel and pull my two standup jetskis to the lake

Ok So when i justy realised that i don't have any face pics of when i first broght her home???? hum i could have sworn.... :dunno: but here was the interior when i brought it home I knew what i wanted to do so i got right to work. I removed the bench seat, carpet and most of the interior pannels :waving: i have allways liked the xj bucket seats and center consoul so that was what i was off to the JY in search of... I fond some realy nice seats out of a 99 cherokee and i pullde the center consul and the flor shifter and cables, and 4x4 linkage and every thing associated with it, as i was also looking for a trans and a TC. I rean a cross a xj country at the jy and i took the wood grain dash and door panels and gauge cluster since i had the iddiot light cluster. becides it had 150k on the clock way better thatn my 220k iddiot... :rotf: I ended up finding a aw4 out of a 94 xj that was mated to a 242 on craigslist for 100 gurenteed to be in good shape.... so off i went and home i came with the aw4. I took the 242 off the aw4 and ended up selling it for 130 so hey i made a few bucks hey I went to the you pull it here in town and pullde a low milage 231 out of a xj for 100

Hi I am Tim :typing: and i have been a snooping around on this form fro some time now. I have final had the chance to sit down and post some pics of my project... a build page if you will. This little red jeep is not my first but it is my first MJ i have allweys wanted one but ive neverbeen able to pick up a good one around here.(el paso TX {SMILIES_PATH}/jamminz.gif) or find any for that matter untill recently. I piched up a 1988 jeep mj 4.0 2WD short box.... she has 220k on her but i belive the motor has been rebult at some time. Just to warn you I'm a little dyslexic so bear with me. so back to the mj.... i paid a wopping 600 for her because the starter had gone bad and priveious owner just was tired of fixing her.... I just sold my 1990 xj so that i could start to buld her up.... my plans as of right now :chillin: are to convert it to a 4x4 lift it 6/12 to 7 inches with the roughf country long arm upgrade for the cherokee.... 8.8 in the rear with 4:10s and a hp30 in the front. I will be running 33 mtrs. I have allready started work on her so ill post up some pics as soon as i load them in to photo bucket.... Ps ive allready been working on the mj for about two months now
