  1. This is not gonna be a high dollar build, it's just a beater that I'm throwing together with spare parts and bailing wire... :wrench: I dove'd the front and bobbed the rear frame and bed, I'm using a xj 8.25 welded in the rear and an open 30 in the front out of the parts xj. Got the doorless mod done yesterday...
  2. Are club is got a trip planned to the Black Mountain Adventure Area in Harlan Ky in late April. I was gonna take my xj and run the easy trails, but I got to thinking how much fun it would be to take something I could try anything with and not feel bad if it came home in pieces. :brows: I bought an old 94xj in a cow field but it was too far gone so I found this Mj with no title for scrap price.
  3. I really like this truck, very clean and starting from scratch is awsome.
  4. Nice, I like the chiefs. Don't look so bad to me, I just bought a black 87 that most people would haul straight to the crusher....
  5. Nice MJ, check the clutch pedal. I had a MJ that the clutch pedal was cracked in the back toward the firewall and I pulled the tranny 2 times and still couldn't get enough pedal. Everytime I pumped it, the crack would separate and it wouldn't push the master cylinder enough. Just something to check.
  6. It wasn't hard but I'll be painting mine matt black. Now if your gonna paint it to match your xj then It'll take alittle longer to keep the metal from warping, and alot of blocking. I got the other MJ off the ground and on wheels yesterday, now I just gotta wait till they move 5 yrs of crap in front of it and I'll be ready to start the fun stuff. The pistons, rods and block are on there way to the machine shop.
  7. I've decided to use a MJ to build my new project but not this one. I found a shell cheap and since I'm gutting it anyway, I'll save some time. I did get the cowl hood built to cover the SBC motor. Some other parts I've come up with
  8. [*]I'm kinda on the fence on this build, I wanna build a v-8 xj for the OH mud races. They run tire size only across the river so I was gonna swap the 2dr over to a roller vortec 350,350T and 241 this winter. I've been playing with the idea of building the mj as a OH racer and leaving the 2dr for WV. I like the wheelbase of the mj for staying straight in the pit but not sure how it will transfer weight. Is the Mj unibody/rear frame stronger? Anyone here ever race offroad race one? Here's a couple video's to show what we use the little 2dr for. The last video is facebook and I couldn't get it to work on here so I linked it. The booms are the fair fireworks going off.... 3qN2YsONk2s Ff312hJMg2E fiFlSW0E9eg C2AIR0-AURU http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1803357697705&set=t.100000623931113&type=3
  9. The one on the MJ is a ARB, the one on the xj is home built.
  10. Hi I'm Jon and I've alway's loved the Mj's and this is my third one. My problem is when I get them up and running, my buddy"s deal me out of them. This is the one I just got it's a 89 with a 4.0 and puke goat..LOL I'm gonna finish up the 5in lift and cut it big like I did on the black one in a pic below. Do a 97+ HO swap (no dash and interior) put in a 410 8.8 and D30 and 35/12.50's This is a pic of both of my old MJ's on are last trail ride, I hated watching them all day so I went out and got another one. :D This is my trail xj now Here's a pic of my wife's 2 dr I built her to mud race and sand drag. I got a video of her smoking me last year in a side by side drag...LOL She's fast. This is a 88 that I did a 97+ swap on, I love the look of the late models so the MJ is getting it to...
  11. Thanks guy's, I just hate to put stuff off. One other question, I noticed that the clutch master cylinder for the 98 with the external slave is mounted different and the lines are plastic. Is this gonna be a big issue since it looks like it will get into the fuse block in the firewall?
  12. I got a donor, My deal is all the 97 plus swaps on here seem to take a long time. I can't find anything on the fuel pumps and there comparability's. I know the pedals are different and so is the dash mounting tabs. Just not sure hoooowww different. I can mod anything, I just don't want to start another 1 yr project, not sure if I got the steam for it :ack:
  13. Hi everyone, I've been reading on hear awhile and I have a question. I picked up a 88mj that's got problems with the ax15 swap the PO did (won't shift into 2nd). I bought a 98xj for the ax15, my question is... Should I just swap the tranny or should I swap it all over? Motor, dash and seats. I've read all the swap threads I could find and I love the way they came out. I'm just on the fence with this and need some advice. Here's a pic of my mj. 88mj with a renix and ax15 from a 91yj Here's the Donor. 98xj with a ax15, rear unibody damaged.
