alternator Alternator Replacement/Upgrade 1988
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm not running anything other than stock, but my buddy recommended I purchased an alternator from a '95, so I already have that one. Do you know if I can just bolt on a newer mounting bracket? -
I have found literally 0 information about this style of alternator, and can find only a few "upgrade" alternators that range between 300$ and 700$. I will not be able to buy this. Is there anyway to switch from the old style alternator to the new style in order to make replacement easier, and act as an upgrade? (Pic related, Old VS new Style mounting)

AX-15 Swap (T-Case input gear question)
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@howeitsdone so, I finally got a chance to work on it, I've been moving around a lot. The tranny shop were absolute mongaloids and they actually twerked the bearing in the rear output shaft, so the cover was unable to be removed. The rust on the steel components made it difficult, and they probably just try to muscle through it and ended up getting it stuck. I soaked it in PB Blaster for a few days, and beat on it with a rubber mallet until it came off. -
AX-15 Swap (T-Case input gear question)
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@howeitsdone The inside is all rusty, the tranny shop told me it was too rusty (like the gears, the guy left it out during monsoon season here in Arizona) to take apart, I'll watch a YouTube video before messing with it though lol. Whenever I get to pulling it a part, I'll post here about it (hopefully tomorrow!) -
AX-15 Swap (T-Case input gear question)
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@89 MJ I live in pheonix right now, hopefully by next week, I'll be back in California though, because that's where my truck is. I would be very happy if I can salvage it, thank you for the hope. Hopefully I can finish the swap with no troubles, and without breaking anything lol. I'll keep this thread updated if I get more information, thank you -
AX-15 Swap (T-Case input gear question)
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
@89 MJ You can't see it very well (AX-15 transfer case pictured below), but that is as far as the tranny ship said they could get it to come, I'm going to grab some PB Blaster and WD-40 to see if I can get that apart, if I can salvage it that would be awesome, but I'm doubtful lol. In person, you can obviously see there is a lot of rust on everything, but my phone lacks the ability to capture it because I live in Arizona and it's always bright as'. -
Hello, I am doing an AX-15 Swap on my 1988 Jeep Comanche, and have a question for the transfer case input gear specifications. My truck came stock with the Peugeot, and I know the stock Peugeot has a 22 teeth input gear, and the AX-15 has a 23 teeth input gear. I have two transfer cases, one for each transmission, can I just take the 23 tooth input gear on the AX-15 T-Case, and slap it on the Peugeot T-Case? The T-Case for the AX-15 is very rusted and my be irreparable. TL;DR can I put an AX-15 T-Case Input gear in a Peugeot T-Case? Thank you for your help!

Is anyone interested in buy replica roll bars?
USFSOFFICIAL replied to USFSOFFICIAL's topic in The Pub
It looks like about 300 dollars, depending on the labour. I'll look to source a bender big enough, if not I can get a machine shop to get it done. I just need dimensions of at least the short bed (because the long bed is just an extra strut), all the adds for an original are no longer valid, so if anyone has the dimensions I could probably start soon. -

Thats a good idea, ill probably have a prefab one as well (if I do it). And if it's profitable, because I can undercut the market, I might be able to purchase a bender. If not, I know some machinists who might be able to help me. -

I'd be interested in offering both. Sometimes its worth it to just have something pre-built -

I have no clue on shipping, and I'll have to check tomorrow. I work at a hardware store, next to a recycle yard and a metal yard. Hopefully recycled metal will be cheaper, I'm hoping around 200$ for a raw unit (just welded and painted for shipping, not powder coated or anything), but id have to check with prices in my area. I'll get back to you tomorrow for an accurate estimate. -
In looking for a comanche roll bar, I found that the factory roll bars are virtually impossible to find. I have the capability to fabricate, and some free time on my hands and was wondering how many people are interested in this sort of thing. Let me know, and I might post an email address for potential inquiries, Alright, have a goodaye!

would you recommend upgrading from the closed radiator system (with the external radiator reservoir [No Radiator Cap]) to the newer system?

Good Morning, I need some help with the fixing of my 1988 Jeep Comanche, I have the 4.0, and need to replace the lower bolt hole for the thermostat housing. I'm not sure if the prior owner destroyed it, but now I have to deal with it. I bought some of this steel stick stuff, and applied accordingly, now I need to tap the hole. Is there a way, preferably easy for me to do at my house, to remove the front of the vehicle? Like the radiator and grill. Thanks for your time :)
