  1. sorry, I meant the diff bump (not sure what the nomenclature is). I guess I'll need a crawl under mine to get an idea of what I should look for. I found this kit for $200 on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/122680812625?ul_noapp=true looks like it has everything but the e-brake cable. used rotors and pads, so those will need to be replaced too.
  2. Thank you very much for this. That's a seriously huge help! Is the frame to axle drop line the cable running over the knuckle? The soft lines would probably be picked up from the JY along with the ZJ parts, correct? Which would make the two rusty lines connected to the backing plate the e-brake lines? Thank you again, @kryptronic
  3. Picked up light bar, XJ skid plate, and MJ D44 over Labor Day weekend. Will be cleaning up the D44 and adding rear disc brakes and maybe SOA before dropping in. The light bar isn't factory, but I really like the way it looks. The skid plate adds some much needed beef, too!
  4. I'll try to do the same today and get an exact OD measurement
  5. thanks, we popped it in last night and really like the way it looks:
  6. Happy Labor Day, all. I am getting ready to tear down this D44, and I wanted to get some feedback on our plan for refurbishing. We're about to clean it up and drop it in along with new 4.56 gears and a true-trac set up front and rear, so not too concerned about the internals right now. We are getting ready to order the parts for a disc brake conversion, and had a few questions: 1. Will the ZJ brake conversion require drilling out the rotor to fit the D44? Is there a set of rotors we can buy that will bolt on? 2. Will the brake lines be plug and play? This will be my first time working on brake lines. We were just going to rip out everything on there and replace it since it's rusting pretty bad 3. Will the ZJ calipers and rotors fit with 15'' wheels? 4. Is there anything we should know before jumping in? Thanks in advance for the feedback - here are some pictures:
  7. the diameter of ours is about 3''. So I imagine the OEM one is 2-2.5''
  8. any idea where the bar I picked up came from originally?
  9. Got it - I actually thought the same thing with regards to the thickness of the tube. It was sitting on top of the wheel well in the Comanche it got pulled from. Will be sure to get some pics up soon!
  10. Horn, what should I look for to verify? Was pretty cheap and fits great so I guess I can't complain either way!
  11. Made some great Craigslist finds this weekend- jammed out to Phoenix in this heat wave at 3am to grab a Comanche D44 and light bar for about $500. Going to sand these down and throw on a coat of paint before they go in the truck! Edit: found a factory xj skid too
  12. Thank you very much - I figured, but wanted to double check!
  13. Hi all, on CL looking at parts and came across a front and gas tank skid package of an early 90s XJ - will it an MJ with little to no modification? I know the front skid will, but unsure of gas tank.. thanks!
  14. I can commit to the 9th. I am getting regeared and TrueTracs front and rear on the 6th!
  15. Hey nice to meet you! I am in Mid-City LA. I go up to Hungry Valley all the time- maybe we can get a trip on the books once it cools down a little bit? Hey guys! I'm out of Lakewood/LB, I've been hitting up Gorman lately too! let's get a trip going! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I can commit to Gorman! Hungry Valley isn't too far, either. How do y'alls schedules look for early September, maybe the first or second weekend?
  16. Blew out my steering stabilizer in Hungry Valley last week. Picked up a Rancho stabilizer for about $50. Noticeable difference over that old piece of junk that was on there! Took it up to Rohwer Flats this weekend, and blew out my axle seals on the D30. Thinking I might just get the regear up to 4.56s in the next few weeks since they'll replace it.
  17. Had a chance to get out to Hungry Valley today with both my trucks and my roommate (in the MJ). Comanche performed beautifully, but will definitely benefit from a lift!
  18. Sorry it has been a bit since I've had a chance to check in! Figured out how to get that damn spare on finally, finished the fiberglass on the front fenders, and bedlined the rockers/rear fenders. Overall, very happy with how this turned out on our first attempt. I also got a deal on a really nice '98 xj front end and interior ($500 total for everything I'll need for swap, minus engine and harness). Will probably save that until after I get it lifted. Stay tuned!
  19. Sorry about that- I will try to resize the images and reupload. That'd be great! Would be awesome to all roll out to a junkyard. Seems to be a quite a few of us down here in SoCal. My bench is shot, def. need to find a new one.
  20. Only 30 minutes! Super close. Woodland Hills is on the way out to a couple of nice trail runs.

  22. Glad to see you made it back!
  23. July 10th update: It has been about 100F every day the last few days, so haven't had a chance to get to the fiberglass on the fenders. I did, however, pick up a nice set of American Racing Outlaw II wheels this weekend for $250 for the set of 5, and wrapped them with 4 brand new BFG T/A K02s (31/10.5r15). I really like the way the wheels and tires look with the cut fenders. The wheels will need some TLC but they are exactly what I wanted!
  24. They were low on washer fluid and filled the wrong thing. 98% of all vehicles I have seen have the caps labeled, motor oil, power steering, blinker fluid etc but I guess minis aren't labeled. Oh well, not my truck/car. Do you think this engine is salvageable in any way? I imagine it will need a total rebuild. I was wondering the same thing, too. I think it probably depends on how hot things got in there. If it got up to operating temp for more than a few minutes I'm sure it's warped beyond repair. That goo would be an insulator and wouldn't allow any heat to escape. What I'd be curious to know, though, is how long it took for them to notice, and when/how they finally did haha.
