AM-General: http://www.amgeneral.com/corporate/history.php Not GM owned but was involved with a joint venture with . . . Mike

AMC had a strong following or rather the ones who bought AMC refuse to own anything but there are a lot of people still driving AMC's refusing to update past the 88'/89' Model year's . . . The 2 newest model to have an AMC sticker under the hood  MJ Production numbers: Model Year - SWB/LWB - Manufacturer: 1986 - xxxxxx/23,251 - AMC (4wd-only) 1987 - 6,199/6,685 - AMC (4wd-only) 1988 - 6,895/9,167 - AMC (4wd-only) 1989 - 5,354/5,021 - AMC / Chrysler (4wd-only) 1990 - 3,283/2,129 - Chrysler (4wd-only) 1991 - 5,188 - Chrysler (total MJ production) 1992 - 3,142 - Chrysler (total MJ production) Notice the numbers drop off as Chrysler takes over AMC/Jeep ? must say some thing for how liked AMC was ? I was told by a Chrysler employee that AMC was renamed Eagle and stayed in production until employment and warenty requirements were fulfilled ? Mike

 Very nice guy's  Keep posting them towed or Hauled loads with your MJ's . . . We should have an official tow/haul photos thread :smart: Mike

Yea well they took a little while to get AMC out of production late 88'-early89' they had all of AMC shut down renamed as eagle to cover employment & warranty coverages, once those obligations were fulfilled then eagle was shut down give or take . . . Jeep didn't fully become Cryco after the buy up, it started slowly with discontinuation the FSJ's pickup's in 1988 & SUV's in 1991, then Comanche 1992. AMC engine dropped one at a time,AMC V-8 production stopped in 93' AMC I-4 dropped completely in 96' AMC I-6 dropped in 06' completely done by 08' . . .They produced the engine 2-3 year's after the vehicle's it was used in where discontinued to run out supplies . . . So honestly Jeep wasn't fully Cryco's in my opinion until they started powering them with Mini Van V-6's and Neon I-4's in 06.5' + Now that being said if you'll notice the front control arm's AMC used on the XJ-MJ's are on every RAM from 94'+ what 10 years after AMC used it ? Now AMC itself might be all gone and long gone but many of there design's have continued to prosper . . . The Humvee & H1's remained in production unchanged until 2006 ! But never fear AM-General tho working on its own is still alive and well when you get a chance check out the AM-G under hood sticker's still shows the AMC logo :hmm: Mike

I was only retyping what the jeep listed for load capacity spec's for the MJ's, it stayed the different ratings had different engines transmission's and rear end's . . . you wanna argue go to the Jeep forum sight and look at the psecs your self and argue with them not me . . . Nice load so these can tow a fairly decent amount, most i ever hauled was 1,200lb's back when it had the topper on it. I have had the please of doing any towing yet as my rear bumper is rotten and junk, But so far i am very impressed with what this little Heap of a jeep will do . . . You have a very nice looking MJ there shoot some paint on the bed floor put the cool mat over it i love mine Mike

:D But if it didn't say topless you might not have looked ;) I know  on me :fs1: Mike

Its doing just fine under load, I kept hearing people dogging on the 2.5er . . . Best I can tell that AMC-2.5L tows loads by far better then any 2.5 GM 2.3 Ford i have owned in the past and those 2 truck trucks had by far less miles on them . . . Only one that may have given this 2.5L run was my 84' Nissan 2.4L but that truck had an automatic trans so that may have handed the win to the MJ . . . My MJ now: AMC-150 I4, AX-4 4spd, D35 with 3.73's, and 235's My MJ's Repowering: AMC-290 V8, T-5 5spd, AMC-20 with 4.11's, and 235's  I'm sure towing in the future will not be of any concern  Payloads i found for MJ's: 86'-92' MJ in bed payload 1,475-LB's on all model's except "metric tonner", Max towed load 2.5L 2,000LB's 2.8L 4,200LB's, and 4.0L 5,000LB's. The metric ton's payload was increased to 2,209LB's in bed, same 2,000/4,200/5,000 LB towed load rating's . . . So rounded off structurally every MJ was a 1,500LB/5,000LB truck limited by engines ? and rear axles ? as best i could tell. D44/AMC-20 with 2.8L/4.0L was for the heavy pay loaded truck's and the light duty truck's got the D35/2.5L combo . . . I'm sure my new drive train will be just fine . . . Mike

Loaded topless: 191K miles later that little AMC-150 I-4 can still tug some weight around just fine Little riding mower with some random stuff stuffed around it, That little truck never noticed it was there got right up to speed held the speed and slowed it down just fine I'm sure it'll my ATV on a small trailer to end's of the world with out any issues, but just in case i just happen to have bought myself an AMC-290 V8 just in case  Now all i need is the T-5 5spd and an MJ AMC-20 from the 1986 metric tonner  Oh and a set of 4.11 gears :D Mike

My truck is rusty, and gets driven in the salt it's most important job is done during the salty season . . . Mechanically well it run's good and is mechanically sound tho the soft parts had a little tizzy a while back after replacing several 100 dollars worth of parts it now runs good once more . . . Nothing i can't fix but with it being my daily transportation there is no way it can e pulled from the road long enough to get any of the rust repair done, if i piece meal it what was once repaired will be rotten again by the time it's all ready for paint . . . This truck took the place of my 95' GMC's Daily driver spot, even if i can get the 95' K2500 up and going again the 6.5 diesel won't be daily driven at least not during the wintery salty season it start's hard in the cold and firing up a frozen diesel just to drive to the other side of the road and shut it off leads to failures and break down's . . . So as you can see the Comanche is getting used in and during the worst times for an automobile started and stop at -15*F to +15*F driven in snow slush and salt . . . It would be nice if the old 6.5er would run year round everyday, but i can't afford the payments and its break downs so the last time it broke down i bought the Jeep as a back up vehicle . . . sure enough the 6.5 broke down again so towed it out to the farm and unburied the Jeep and been driving it . . . So no there is no back up for the jeep it must live or die sink or swim it is the last chance point of no return Vehicle it fail's i'm in a box under the over pass . . . So far it's been a great ali but i have got to find a way to fix the rust or it won't be around but 5 years maybe then it'll be to rotten to save and by 7-9 years it'll be to rotten to drive . . . Jeep ain't the only sacrificial lamb the 1962 GMC was driven in several salty winter's and now has the gapping wholes in the body to prove it, I'd rather let the Jeep take the salt bath hit then my 30-50 year old truck's but know they too have done it ! lived it ! and where lucky enough to survive it ! . . . Mike

 I've tried fixing up the same Rig i was driving :fs1: several time's in the past i can safely say it never work's  the story never end's well for said vehicle :waving: :ack: normally . . . Vehicle either end's up scrapped or spending the rest of it's day's parked on the back slowly rotting away then hauled off when it collapses apon itself  . . . It's happened to me many times over the year's in order of importance if this was to become a restoration vehicle then it would still be way down on the list when would surely be junk by the time i get to it . . . I have no idea this truck's fate, but the longer it stay's running the better it's chances of survival are Unlike most this isn't fun Vehicle its my daily transportation  it don't work i don't ;) it goes down and stays down to long it'll be replaced :( Mike

Most just view as old beat up truck and that is the ones who notice it :fs1: There is no "WHOA" or "WOW" effect to it . . . I guess it was a $300 beater truck, I suppose its bought as a cheapo Bic lighter throw away truck i guess i shouldn't have expected more out if then a recyclable material . . . buy it cheap drive till some thing major goes scrap it move on . . . I just thought this truck could be some thing more then this . . . Mike

any place i'd go wheeling would swallow up that little truck like nothing . . . Mike
-
It's been running right for a while now . . . I have just found the truck to be routine and boring . . . Mike
-
I don't know, i have just put a bunch of money into this truck and none of it was a FUN purchase :fs1: Mike

Brush guard. Bumpers. Roll bar. Those sound fun, i think i'll do some measuring and get some steal, Yes i KNOW they offer them but why buy what i can build ? Mike

How does one fix a boring truck ? . . . I'm getting bored with my Comanche how do make this shoe box more fun ? Mike
-
No not really but what really dose look as it once did ? Mike
-
yes but that car was way out there in design. . . Hot Rod Mag version: http://www.hotrod.com/featuredvehicles/ ... to_01.html I think the challenger variant would be / could be possible . . . rather more likely to happen then the HRM's concept's . . . Mike
-
2012 AMX: this ain't an April fools Hot Rod mag article either . . . The write up on this was written in a foreign language , but this wouldn't be the first time Chrysler did some thing cool over sea's or in Mexico that was never brought here . . . Did you know they have been building dodge truck's as big as a RAM6500 since 1994 in Mexico ? Mike
