another idea, I've been researching EV conversion some time ago, and this drivetrain setup can be simplified by using electric motor on each axle (without any gearboxes, they are not needed for EV really, just low gearing on ring and pinion), and motors, controllers etc. all reasonably priced. everything except batteries, these things cost an arm and a leg if one would want a decent range. though, can be interesting setup. EV is more capable off-road too, as all torque available from 0 rpm

that much I figured, that rear axle should be upside-down to rotate the same way or have a reverse ring and pinion, which is not quite as easy for 8.25, but turning it won't be as much of a problem. though then need some custom made diff cover. Thanks for the pic, Johnny, nice setup here

Frankly speaking, I don't intend to do this conversion anytime soon, first of all I need to restore my MJ to at least stock specs. This mod was just a thought on what can be done. regarding that third member, well, still need to be measured, maybe trimmed and having a spacer to the axle and such. I think it can work, but it's hard to say without the actual piece on my hands. This type of drivetrain arrangement was used quite often on all-terrain trucks, especially on older Russian KAMAZ and URAL (now they added a wormgear and turned axles 90 degrees). And again, this mod is not practical on MJ in terms of investment/results, so more of a "look at my unique truck" thing

the price will be too much. and if use parts from existing trucks - width and weight just not for Comanche

This TJ doesn't look proportional for its body, but then total length should be about the same as a long bed Comanche! Wonder if there are write ups on suspension and drivetrain. I can see air bags and four link for mid axle, not sure what he's done that the rear.

Just a neat website on legacy Jeeps http://www.jeepcollection.com/

These are up for sale, but, this guy said $150,000 - $250,000, I don't think your balls altogether worth that much LOL
  8. are there any rear liners? I looked at both my stock bed and a replacement I got - none had any liners or holes for it in them
  9. shipping to Canada is pretty pricey. I've got a quote from them for floorboards where the shipping was twice the price of the panels themselves. Junk yards will do :)

here is a third member for 8.25. As I figured it can be attached instead of diff cover and will split torque. Diff is the same, can fit a locker too for the "cool-factor"!

Just started to look into this setup, inspired by AMG 6x6. This thing doesnt have much articulation, but with so many wheels doesnt even need it as much as 4x4. I think MJ would look awesome! Do you think it's doable? Here is a home-brew 8-link
  12. Man, you have two Mercedes. That's far worse waste of money :teehee:
  13. Don't forget to re-locate a ground wire somewhere else
  14. Alrighty! Thank you everyone! I will pick one up then.
  15. Trying to make my Jeep look nicer, so I've got a question. I got XJ with a bent front bumper (metal piece) and now I struggle to find a replacement one on salvage yards. They got few pre-92 in a good shape but not for the newer ones. Are these metal pieces interchangeable? I don't mind extra holes or drill few and my side covers are in a good shape.
  16. Nice! I was really looking to see how they look and fit. Thank you! did you figure out reverse light and side markers? Or just left them out?
  17. will napier flares clear ARB snorkel?
  18. I saw replacement box panels for sale, fairly inexpensive too in case if you want to repair it. http://stores.zmjeeps.com/bed-side-mj-comanche/
  19. So I'd start to save money on a ported Edelbrock head and SC kit, rather than on a stroker kit. Looks cooler anyway, SC can be actually seen in the engine bay.
  20. It's not a "hole," it's a threaded boss -- a blind hole. The Chrysler ECU doesn't use a knock sensor, but there's not need to plug to hole. Thank you! Makes my life a tiny bit easier :)
  21. http://comancheclub.com/topic/33577-convince-me-to-get-33s-instead-of-35s-or-not/ and http://comancheclub.com/topic/28041-bushwacker-flat-style-flares-on-mj/ there is a little gap between a side panel and a fender.
  22. can this hole be plugged with just a bolt? I assume chrysler ECU doesnt have any need for this sensor
  23. yeah, with cruise control also
  24. Here is an email I got from then not a long time ago: Unfortunately at the moment there is not a different option to work on the Comanche bed sides. We hope to be able to make some in the near future but do not have any sort of ETA. I have seen a few guys purchase our the front set and fab something custom for the rear. As far as us modifying the design currently would not be possible due to the complexity to make needed changes to fit them to your bed sides. I wish it was just as simple as adding the length to our current design to make it work but unfortunately it would take a lot more almost a complete redesign to be honest. Thank you for your interest and hopefully before to long we will have them available to purchase.
  25. Rusty has cool front fender covers with small steel flares. Won't fit rear though as they are for XJ. Other than that, I only know of Bushwacker. http://www.rustysoffroad.com/jeep-exterior-parts-accessories/jeep-body-panels-fender-flares-tire-covers/xj-cherokee/rustys-steel-fender-flares-xj.html
