Yup. It was pretty obvious while trying to put them in. If they had fit, the front top of the lower control arm would of been rubbing on the perch. Thanks for the info. Time to empty the piggy bank. Any advice on new ones??? -

Calling CWLongShot. What the hell is the trick to getting the front springs in??? I removed the lower control arm bolts and got the springs in. Then when I tried to line it up to replace bolts. I couldn't get it positioned right. It kept fighting me till it was so bound up I had to remove the springs. The guy who I spoke to on the phone when ordering told me stock control arms would work, but I have a feeling he had no idea what he was talking about. Once again, 6" lift. 2" spacers & old man emu springs. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks -

Sorry for starting another post, but I need some help. Installing a lift on my 87. Does the part pictured need to be removed & if so how the heck does it come off. Only 2 reasons I ask is because in the directions there is a picture where it is missing, & 2, if it doesn't come off, I'm going to have one heck of a time installing spacers & springs as they (spacers) will not go over the collar of pictured bump stops. BTW, this is a rocky road 6" lift. Thanks in advance for the help. -
Still here. Had to do a clutch in my 89 before continuing with this one. Scored a 6" lift, some used wheels & some exhaust parts. Now its time to get busy. Got the back finished last night. Going out to do the front this morning. More pictures later tonight. :typing:

After checking part #'s I decided it just looked different. Correct part indeed. Fixed? YES. Runs great. Have a small overheating issue I will fix tomorrow. But hopefully I'll be driving it by the afternoon. Thanks for all the help
-
It was the injector on # 6. Unfortunately the new one I picked up looks different then the others, so I'll have to wait till tomorrow after checking with the auto parts store. I even checked the part # on line & it said it was the correct one. The tops a little longer & it looks to me that the rail wouldn't fit correctly once bolted down. We'll see. Update tomorrow.

I will. Have to wait till tomorrow though. If its dry, I'll swap injectors out. Thanks for your help. I'm just excited its getting closer to running right. Then I can order my lift.

Sorry. I diagnosed it wrong. I should of said that it isn't firing on that cylinder. I just figured it was spark. But no. I just ran outside & pulled the pug & it is sparking. Must be fuel. I'm 100% sure its not firing on that cylinder. I'm going to check the injector tomorrow. Any tips on that?

After putting a new head & exhaust manifold on the truck, it ran exactly the same as before all the work. Only reason I put a new head on it is because I got a great deal on it. Anyways. After some simple test's I found that cyl. # 6 has no spark. Popped in a good used distributor I had on the bench & the same thing. No spark on 6. Any tips for diagnosing when be greatly appreciated.

90 Pioneer DD A little at a time

Nice rig. Great deal  -
Did not check them, but all was new. I better put the manifolds back on & check some more basics.

It ran like it was only running 0n 4 cyl.'s. No knocks, good compression. Exhaust manifold was toast, so I removed old one & have a new one. 1 exhaust bolt broken & in the process of repairing it. So I guess next thing is I'll pull the valve cover and check there. Put exhaust and intake back together.
-
Yes. I agree. Ive decided to stick with this engine. I'm going to pull the head since I already have the manifolds off & 1 broken exhaust bolt. That way I can take a peak at the pistons & walls. Probably have the head checked out as well. Havnt got much done because its so damn cold here. I'm itchin to lift it, but promised myself I wouldn't till i get it running right.
-
They are. I'm just afraid I'll spend countless hours trying to get it running right. Its just easier for me to replace it with something I know runs right. This sucks, because I'm a green person and hate to make waste. :ack:

So I'm going to be replacing my current 6cyl.in my 87 Comanche & my question to you is, Will a newer (say 95) 4.0 HO plug in the same as my current 4.0 or is the head different? If I remember correctlisn't the intake different. Thanks for any help.

Gotta love this :dunno: This is more my style. Still ran with a heavy miss & a bad exhaust leak so I got busy. Exhaust manifold is toast (of course). Doesnt look to clean in there. Contimplating putting a different motor in. I'm terrible at diagnosis, but great at R & R. So if I have good compression & no knocks do you think I can make this motor run right? 165K on the odometer.
-
Havnt pulled the rubber mat yet, but from what I can see & feel it seems to be good. we'll see.

Plans are to turn it into a mild trail rig/wheeler. Probably for the next 30 days I will work on the mechanical issues. Gave it a compression check yesterday & it was great. 135-140 across the board. So I know the motors good. Still won't run right. Check underneath the cap & the rotor was toast. Replaced it, but it didn't help. Today I plan on replacing the crappy air filter someone put on it with a factory air-box I picked up yesterday. Hopefully this will help with something. Motor has a bad miss. Could be a vacuum leak. Exhaust manifold sounds shot as well. Need to do some investigating there. I'll report back later witha few pictures.

I just picked up my first MJ. Its an 87. 6 cyl with crappy BA-10. Nice body & interior. Motor runs rough. Am going to give it a compression check in morning & go from there. Will make a plan of attack once I figure out the engine problem. Still made it 100 miles home though  Updates to come-----------
