  1. this is what i look like when you add beer on halloween.
  2. this is definitly not a dana 35 :chillin: added a link to my webpage in my signature too... my background has all been in tjs. i have been into mine since they first appeared 13 years ago. i had a yj before that... the tj has been through 5 suspensions, and many other phases. recent activity was an aw-4 swap, a few years ago i did an 8.8 swap. they both have been heavily documented. we spend a chunk of every spring in moab utah and the rest of the time in the northwest. i live for the wrench and like to weld and shape metal in an amaturish manner (i say) others seem to like my work. have pretty much every man tool a shop needs crammed into my 2 car garage. have dabbled in automotive paint but not spent too much time with body work. i am eager to get into this too... a recent hobby has reared its head and taken me so strongly that i had forgotten all about my tj for two months... started playing acoustic guitar on july 22nd and havent seen the tv since. picked up a nice 300 series taylor D3 and can't put it down without some effort. i now have to make myself do other things cause nothing is getting done around here.... :rotf: the job... i make steam and power for a paper mill. what else?? um.... well next summer i turn 40... check out my wee little website and check out the tj. it is extremely well built all by me. a nice little sleeper.
  3. i was thinking it looked just like a 20. if I'm thinking right, they are a nice step up from a dana 35... the tranny resembled an ax-15 or 5. i was happy to not see a peugot under there... one of the things i want to do is update the front sheetmetal. a 4.0 swap and aw4 are also in the running for the drive train. i had not even thought about a v-6, i will look more into this as a option. thanks for the info! keep it coming if there is any more :) what do you mean background? like a profile? :waving:
  4. went and had a look at my new comanche truck today. i will tow it home tomorrow... it appears to be a 86 v-6 is D.O.A. 5 speed something hp 30 rear axle has a round cover ?? long box a little body damage, no rust. good interior will post up some pix tomorrow i hope. if you guys can fill in the blanks above i would appreciate it! thanks! tim :)
  5. i go to moab every year... hopefully we can all keep it open for our use. it is a beautiful and interesting land.
  6. very close to you  I'm in longview. went back and updated the profile a bit :waving:
  7. i literally did it one armed as i just had gotten out of a cast on my right arm. it took me 21 days to do it. i will post three links below from my swap. this one is hosted by my pal stu, he was kind enough to go ahead of me and do this swap while figuring out all the hard stuff... aw-4s never were found in tjs until someone decided to put a good auto in since the factory wouldnt :D http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/aw-4a/aw-4a-1.htm the next one is the write-up from stu's swap which i used for all the wiring and other ideas... there are some differences between our swaps but it is mostly personal preference stuff http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/aw-4/aw-4-1.htm this third link is the thread i used for compiling parts and ideas. many people stepped in to help and it has also helped a few others trying to do this swap. http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums/showthread.php?t=468774 the only thing i had to change after the swap was the cooling. i moved the small cooler into the grille.
  8. thanks guys! i will add all that info as soon as i can. looking forward to hitting that thing with my wrenches!!! there has been a plan in my head for one of these for many years. i already know what i want to do with the suspension, tires and body... the engine right now is up in the air and that will determine what tranny. i swapped an aw-4 into my tj last winter and i really like that, so i might be headed towards a 4.0. i like to keep the engine stuff simple once it is in place. makes later repairs and finding parts easier. i know some of my friends with xjs have cooling problems so i think i want to stick close to oem on this one. :USAflag:
  9. hi, i am tim.... i have been into jeeps for a long time. been playing with my tj for about 13 years and now am coming into a mj... i still have to go get it but it was free... as it sits, no engine. was a 4 banger but now i can do what i want to i guess. i don't even know what year... i do know i always wanted a comanche. anyways, i will add more info and hopefully won't be too boring with my questions. (don't worry, i know what the search function does) :) here's a pic of my current jeep since i don't have one of the mj yet... ok, that was two....
