I'm in the process of swapping my 4.0 2wd drivetrain to the 4wd drivetrain in my newly acquired MJ. Other than the obvious front axle, drive shafts and transfer case, it has an AX15 from the factory and I found a 4.0 1996 AX15 external slave from an XJ donor.
I know the input shaft from the 1991 AX15 is .59" and the input on the 96 AX15 is .75". So I got a new pilot bushing from and early 70's CJ, P/N PB77HD.
My question is, I want to replace the clutch while I'm in there. I am going to get a clutch from the 1996 trans, P/N: LuK 05-901. I also want to change out the flywheel (P/N: LuK LFW193), do I need to get a 1991 flywheel or a 1996 flywheel? Do I need to worry about the tone rings or anything like that? How about aligning or adjusting the clutch? Never done that before either. Another thing I am thinking about is a flywheel shim, Will I need a shim when replacing the flywheel completely?
