  1. Can anybody shed some light on if it's a bad idea to use a Cherokee rear shackle (which is shorter than the MJ shackle) on a SOA lift. I want the ground clearance of SOA but not digging the potential of 6" of lift. Resarch has shown me there is a potential of "shackle invert" if I run the shorter shackle. I'm putting in a Ford 8.8 with RuffStuffSpecialties leaf spring kit. My leafs are 2wd. Any insight would be great, thanks.
  2. Thanks for the help guys, I'll update the thread.
  3. I'm trying to figure out what to do here. Anyone who can chime in would be greatly appreciated. I want simplicity but functionality. I want to remove the load sensing valve because its confusing won't work with my Ford 8.8 axle. Therefore, is it best to just plug the MJ front valve hole and add a Wilwood 260-8419 Adjustable Proportioning Valve Knob for the rear from the beginning? Also what would be a suitable upgrade for BB and MC?
  4. I'm going from 28" tires/3.07 gears to 32" tires/4.10 gears.
  5. I'm doing a direct swap from 1991 ax-15 2wd swap to a 1996 ax-15 4wd. I found the correct pilot bearing from the late model CJ and I have everything I need for the internal to external slave differences. The only thing I can't find on the internet is the difference between the speedo gears. I can visually see the plugs are different. Can anyone enlighten me?
  6. I haven't found ANYTHING on a Comanche owner installing a ladder type traction bar. How can you, the gas tank is in the way for the cross mount.. argh!
  7. Alright I think I'll play around with a SOA setup. I also found that playing with the leaf packs by adding a main leaf will help resist spring wrap. Know anything about that? Sorry for all the Q's, I'm very familiar with coil springs/CAs so I'm not worried about the front.
  8. I'm trying to fully understand what a shackle is. It is there because the leafs expand when they compress obviously. But the shackle also plays a roll in the quantity of lift as well. Any recommendation on types of shackle to use if I go SOA on the 8.8 so I don't like this thing to the MOON? I also narrowed the kits down to these, what do you think man? http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/catalog/88SS-31.html https://www.mountainoffroad.com/jeep-xj/suspension/ford-8-8-axle/ford-8-8-axle-swap-kit-84-01-cherokee.html
  9. I am thinking about Clayton XJ 4.5" front LA. If I need to do a spacer I will. But I prefer a little rake, maybe .5" higher in the rear. I'm unfamiliar enough with leaf setups let alone traction bars... How do traction bars work exactly?
  10. I want functionality and comfort. I know that's hard to come by without doing a coil conversion! I don't mind fabbing the work for SOA, but since my Manche will be on the road 85% of the time, I'd like comfort. I'm worried about not only aesthetics (leafs sticking out when looking at the jeep from the side) but ground clearance as well with SOA VS SUA.
  11. Does anyone have experience with a SOA setup riding on 2wd leafs with a Ford 8.8 rear end? I'm contemplating this setup or a Ford 8.8 with Hells Creek 4.5" SUA setup.
  12. I'm looking to rebuild a Dana 44 and put it in the rear of my MJ, what vehicles has an equivalent DISK axle that I can swap in? I'm doing SOA, so I will be welding on new perches.
  13. I'm in the process of swapping my 4.0 2wd drivetrain to the 4wd drivetrain in my newly acquired MJ. Other than the obvious front axle, drive shafts and transfer case, it has an AX15 from the factory and I found a 4.0 1996 AX15 external slave from an XJ donor. I know the input shaft from the 1991 AX15 is .59" and the input on the 96 AX15 is .75". So I got a new pilot bushing from and early 70's CJ, P/N PB77HD. My question is, I want to replace the clutch while I'm in there. I am going to get a clutch from the 1996 trans, P/N: LuK 05-901. I also want to change out the flywheel (P/N: LuK LFW193), do I need to get a 1991 flywheel or a 1996 flywheel? Do I need to worry about the tone rings or anything like that? How about aligning or adjusting the clutch? Never done that before either. Another thing I am thinking about is a flywheel shim, Will I need a shim when replacing the flywheel completely?
  14. I'm interested in buying a project Comanche Jeep. I'm looking to put Dana 60 axles in it and a 4.0L stroker and fresh paint. I have big plans. I need a solid platform. To make my life easier I'd like to start off with a 4.0 engine so I have the wiring harness already and whatnot. I'd like to re-use the stock AX-15 transmission I would like it to be a short bed and if possible it can come factory with 4wd. Also no rust would be a plus. Text me at (631) 806-1839 for any leads, I'm located in Western New York. I don't mind driving within reason to pick one up.
