Thanks for the reply. Will be taking the rest of ducting off tomorrow. Doing a little research, I noticed the later model's exhaust manifold doesn't have the warm air intake duct. I have either a cracked exhaust manifold or leak at the manifold/head connection as well. Would the later model exhaust manifold be a better design that is less prone to leaking or cracking? What would you recommend, later model stock exhaust manifold or is there a descent header option out there that people use, or just go with a new stock manifold and delete the warm air intake duct? Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

What is the large, approx. 3" diameter, ducting that goes from air box to exhaust manifold? I am guessing it is part of the EGR system... The hose or ducting is ripped and in bad shape, can I just remove it? If so, do I need to block off hole at the manifold? Engine is an 87 4.0 renix

I have also been curious about a Tacoma rear axle....if I remember correctly the yota axle is only a 1/2" wider. It would be waaaaay stronger than a Dana 35. If you get a 4x4 rear axle from Tacoma, you have the option of getting the factory E locker as well with 4.10 gears.

Wow! I had no idea the VW TDI's were that affordable and light in weight.... Still curious about the Mercedes 617 swap, hopefully someone will chime In on it; whether its worth the work to get it to fit properly, adaptors to Jeep AX15/NP231, mileage, etc., etc. (reason being I already have the engine) ;)

What about the Mercedes OM617 5 cyl. turbo diesel? No electronic bullsh*t. One of, if not the most reliable, longest lasting motors ever made. Thought about putting it in my Land Cruiser fj60, but feel it would be slightly underpowered due to the weight of Cruiser(almost double the weight of my MJ). Anybody out there done this swap or even looked into it?
