Dude.. This truck is such a mess.. everywhere i look i find another thing to put on my list to fix.. But it leaves a lot of room for me to put my own (gheto @$$) touch on things. I just want to get it in some mud already!

Countless hours of scrubbing (with paint thinner and degreaser) and vacuuming later... here it is. Starting to look a lot better in there than it did when i started I used to work at a bar and found an old beer tap behind a kitchen work bench.. i had been waiting for years to find a good use for it and i finally found one! BEER SHIFTER Here is a picutre of the engine bay with the new radiator in. I purchased.. 1. 2000 Xj radiator 2. Uper and lower radiator hoses 3. Coolant 4. Overflow box 5. 10' of 3/8" Vacuum hose 6. All kinds of clamps. 7. Radiator cap. 8. funnel that i turned into a coolant system bleeder with duct tape  The swap was really straight forward.. everything just bolted right in.. filled her up and cranked her over.. The only thing i did that was outside of the norm was bypass the heater core.. which was made possible my zipties and hose clamps.. Thank god for  CC! I didnt even have to ask any questions... SEARCH BARS WORK This is me bypassing the heater core.. i don't have a/c and i live in florida so the last thing i am worried about is a heater.. but i am worried about a busted heater core leaking coolant all over the place! When i started flushing the system i basically was flushing out mud! look at that hose!!!!!!!!!! Here is a random picture of a ghecko smushed in a door at my job.. enjoy!

This is what the interiror looked like after i pulled the seat out. This seat smelled so dam bad.. i was going to toss it but than i had the flex seal idea.. which was indeed stupid (and expensive) What you are looking at there is my carpet.. not dirt animal hide The last bits of muddy interior This floor looks a lot worse than it really is.. This is beforei cleaned it and started to sand it. It was mostly dirt and grime. Nice litttle hole! Anyone hungry for spagetti? The roof needs a little love... Can you say POR15?

I am not used to taking pictures while I work. It feels like it slows everything down too much. But it is so rewarding to have something to look back at. I will snap.some pictures tonight of my progress.. hopefully. In the mean time here is a bunch of pictures I found on my phone. This is what a bench seat looks like covered in Flex Seal.. I had the brilliant idea of trying to seal the stink in.. now I have a hard rubber seat. Out with the old.. I didnt take any picutres of the new.. I flushed 7, 5 gallon buckets of this out of my motor! Here is the tank all niced and sprayed up before I threw here in there. I couldn't find J-bolts so I went to home depot and found these for like .50 and they worked great! Old Fuel Pump vs New Fuel Pump

Dam, I am so bad at taking pictures!! I am going to try and upload some pictures this week of what's going one. This truck has been taking up every spare second I have when I'm not working. I have done a compression check on it and found the following 1. 135 2. 115... concerning 3. 140 4. 150 5. 150 6. 150 Considering it has 180 thousand miles on it and its not blowing any sort of smoke I am happy with those numbers. (its a mud truck... FU&^k it :rock on:) Besides that I have changed the spark plugs, oil, and the entire cooling system over to an open system... SO MUCH BETTER!! My interior is also completely gutted. I am going to pick up a set of some Moab wheels with some 33's on them tomorrow so I can drive around town as soon as I get my brakes done this weekend. So basically everything is coming along great I just need to take more PHOTOS! :wall: :wall: :wall: BTW flex seal does not work very well on seats.. (just take my word for it and don't ask)

The Fuel Vapor Valve.. Can It Be Elimiated?
Gnarmanche replied to Gnarmanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's what I am leaning towards as well... I just kind of needed reassurance before I did it.. Thanks  -
So i was wondering if the fuel vapor valves on our gas tanks are necessary... When i took my old tank off these were not connected to anything. (not even hoses) I just ordered a new tank and they obviously didn't come with them so i was just going to cap these holes off if these valves are indeed useless.. I would prefer not to blow sky high while driving down the street so any sort of advice would be helpful!! :dunce:

Here is a pic of the gas tank before I painted it. I was able to get an xj fuel pump so I had to buy the diesel fuel tank because it does not have an internal pan. NOTE..when you buy a tank it does not come with the vacuum caps on the top of the tank.. DUHHH. Of corse I threw my old tank out the day before the new tank got in..
-
Dumb question....did you drain gas and fill with fresh gas?
-
X2.. Happend to me last night. All i did was tighten the ground on the battery and it fired up.
-
YEEEEE HA! . :MJ 2: . She runs! I mocked up the new gas tank and threw it in there and she fired right up! I still have to paint the tank so I pulled it back out and am going to put a nice thick coat of zinc heavy primer and a nice flat coat of flat paint.. I will take pictures tonight.

Yea.. They handed me 2 shocks with the truck which I need to figure out how to put on because as of now they don't seem to fit right..
-
Key word there is definitely "TRIED".. I can not seem to find a purpose for these things so i am just going to grind them off and mount up a suspension set up that makes sense.
-
On another note... Does anyone know what these guys were trying to do with this axle by adding these "supports" (or whatever they are)???? Any suggestions would be appreciated! I am stumped.

I found the bass under the seat in the cab so i gave him a new home hanging from the rear recovery point.. I am planning on having it as a toy... there are not the BEST trails down here in south Florida so it will be geared mostly for mud.. when life gives you lemons right? When i figure out if this thing runs or not i will be able to decide what my plan of approach will be with the build. So far (if it runs) I just need wheel spacers, brakes (all around) and tires to get it driving down the road. @ Jim.. NICE! I might be next in line for a flat bed.. I'm not sure if i am going to register and insure this truck which means it might be a trailer queen! Here is a photo of my driveway this weekend

http://www.blacksheep4x4s.org/ https://www.facebook.com/blacksheep4x4sorg And as far as Big Cypress the truck inspection is free.. Its the 3 year permit that is 50 bucks. http://www.nps.gov/bicy/planyourvisit/upload/Permit-guidelines-2011.pdf

They ended up ripping the sway bar off the brackets that hold it to the frame and bending the hell out of the extended sway bar links.. so i just ripped it off and called it a day. This truck isnt going to be driven on the road anytime soon so I'm not too worried about it. I don't like the lift that is currently on there either so i am going to end up replacing the entire lift from front to back in the next couple of months. Nice! I have been up to JW Corbit a few times,Big Cypress countless times and planning on going to Lazy Springs with Black Sheep 4x4 but never made my way out to krome.. A buddy of mine is in Black Sheep and is trying to get me to join... Who knows

Yea, I'm actually in Plantation. The first time I called the guy off craigslist he said it was sold.. he called me back 10 days later saying nevermind its back for sale.. I was up there 4 hours later with a uhaul and a hand full of money.. When i got there i was taken back by the state of the truck.. IT IS BEAT to say the least. But none the less it is a good platform. Are you in any Jeep clubs down here?

Those U-Haul flat beds are life savers! It only cost me 65 bucks with insurance and it was a breeze to tow. This truck looks good in pictures (from a far) but once you start to dig into it there is a LOT of work to be done.. BUT I am so ready to get this thing where I want it.
