I'm Stranded And Need Assistance With Wiring
RavenMocker replied to RavenMocker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Are there any other common wires that share the same pins? -
1986 MJ with 4 cylinder. There is a two wire connector that on my vehicle is located behind the intake manifold and the firewall. The female connector has a purple wire with a white stripe and a white wire with a black stripe. The make end has a wire that is red and the other is white. This connector came lose before and the engine shut off and would but start. It would turn over but not start. As soon as I put the connector together the truck started right up and was happy. Well this time the wire dropped and was pulled out of the firewall or where ever the male connector with red wire and a white wire. I need to find out where that wire plugs into. Or if I can find the two common wires that can be used so I can get my truck started and home. I will try and get a pic posted.

Ok so today I went ahead and did the black plastidip. I think I might just strip it later and paint the entire grill and bezels black or maybe the same color I will be painting the truck. The thing I like about using the plastidip is I can see what something looks like painted but not destroy the item. It just peels off. I finally found a salvage yard with the parking lamps. So I was able to buy both sides and a another bezel for 25 bucks.

I'm running out of room in my garage and its spring cleaning. So what the heck I figured I would just install the wagoneer grill the way it is and then work on it later. I will most likely plastidip it black for now. Looks like crap still and I need to find part numbers for the front side markers as all the ones I have come across so far have been for the regular XJ grills.

I guess it depends on what you think it will do for you. People can and will believe what they want. What are you trying to accomplish? Fuel additives are pretty much rip offs. They arent going to do anything for your engine. After adding them to the tank they become so diluted its like adding a pinch of sugar to a gallon of coolaid your making. The coolaid is going to taste like crap and the only thing the fuel additive is going to accomplish is cleaning the money out of your wallet. Do the math. People might not like my answers but I can say Ive tested seafoam and a few other brands on other engines that we have broken down and done a before and after comparison to see what the intakes, piston tops, heads, and valves look liked after. Some where two strokers that collect a lot of carbon. Using Seafoam as a decarbonizer does absolutely nothing to get rid of carbon buildup. Sorry to say. All that stuff coming from the tailpipe is burt and unburnt petroleum products. You would get the same results pouring diesel down the intake. http://www.howstuffworks.com/fuel-efficiency/fuel-saving-devices/fuel-additive-effectiveness.htm

The NV4500 I am using in my cummins conversion is from a late model GM. 32 spline count output shaft. I want to use an NP242 on this project. So I should be able to find an NP 200 series t-case from a GM and swap out the input shaft then bolt it up to the NV4500 and all is good?

Oh Yeaa! Wagoneer all the way!! :rock on: In lue of steel wool I HIGHLY recommend using those magic eraser deals, extra strength ones to be exact. They work incredibly well for taking off deep set in stains and such. Case in Point: Severely stained fender after good hard scrubbing with hot soapy water. . . . Before: After: Cool... I will buy both.

The thing that ticks me off is they have a price board, and it states "All trucks are 31 dollars". I told him I didn't want the sealed headlamps, or anything else because it was either missed or smashed. So when he told me 100 dollars or more depending on after I pull it and bring it to the counter, that was kinda screwed up.
-
Well the guy that owned the Wagoneer XJ no longer has it. I did find one in a salvage yard. They list all the parts and for a truck the front headlamp and grill support is 31 bucks. So I asked the one of the guys that works at the counter. He asked me which XJ I was referring to and then told me that it would now be 100 bucks or more depending on the shape. That price does not include lights, turn signals, the housings, nor the grill. Its just a bare metal support. The others are still 31 bucks.

Well it looks like this project is in the process of chafing to another engine. The is a guy that wants to trade me an entire VW TDI for the engine. So if that happens then I will be going to a VW TDI which is smaller, liter, and creates more HP but and can still get 300+ ft-lbs of torque. Plus it simplifies things considerably with the front suspension and t-case/axle setup. Not to mention way better fuel economy. This Cummins 3.4 in my 4200lb truck went from 12mpg to lower/mid 20mpg. I would expect at least mid to upper 20's with the Cummins. But I would think the 1.9TDI would grant mid to upper thirties in the MJ if not more. I know my 2002 TDI was getting mid 40's in city and mid to upper 50's on the highway with an all time best of about 64mpg. Wish me luck.

Oh i done diddly solved that problem  And to be honest the factory Wagoneer high beams were a lot brighter than my factory MJ high beams. :dunno: http://comancheclub.com/topic/41722-higher-high-beams-wagoneers-only/ I will be adding driving lamps to help. But I am also going to wire the hi and lo to come on at the same time as well as the usual addition of the relays to feed them off the battery allowing them to get full voltage. :)

Higher High Beams (Wagoneers Only)

Can we see what it looks like with the lights on both hi and lo? What does the pattern look like? -
1986 MJ. Before I even purchased an MJ I had decided up front that I wanted to swap in an 1997-2001 grill, fenders, doors from a donor Cherokee. I like the newer rounded look over the boxy old style. I had already priced out parts and began to search for a donor vehicle. I want to maybe even convert as much of the interior over to the newer style as well. The other day things changed when I came across a decent Wagoneer XJ. I really like that grill setup and the four lamps. Now I'm torn which way to go. I really like the looks of them both but the nose section of this Wagoneer XJ is not complete. It is missing the head lamp bezels (I can buy new for a decent price) and the grill has been misplaced but I'm certain it is around in a big pile of junk some where. If I use the 97+ XJ nose clip it will be painted the same color as the MJ. I'm not certain if the Wagooneer XJ grill and lamp bezels are going to look good painted all one color or if they should be kept chromed because to me that look better factory. Ive looked at a few MJ's that have been converted to the Wagoneer XJ grill and I like the way it looks. So I thought Id try and get a vote because I have not seen any other Wagoneer XJ's being parted out or sold for parts.

Ive measured things out and I think it will be ok. I will cut and modify the firewall and inner fenders if need be as well as anything else needed. I am confident that it will work.

Advice On Which Way To Go With Drivetrain.
RavenMocker replied to RavenMocker's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks.... If I had gone with one of my other choices Id be using FZJ80 front and rear axles with factory lockers. Then it would really be offset to the passengers side. :)
