  1. how you all think of the zone offroad 4.5 lift kit? looks intriguing.
  2. ok thanks guys. looks like i got some more reading/ research to do. all the acronyms and i only could understand like 1/2 of what some where...lol.
  3. well are their any long arm lift kits you guys would recommend? what hight lift would you guys recommond? i kinda want a complete kit like; lift, extended brake lines, any needed drop brackets, shocks, etc. one that takes a lot of the guess work out of it.
  4. i have a 92' 2wd long bed Comanche and I'm gonna convert to 4wd here soon. but i figure wile doing that, i might as well get a lift on it. been looking around at lift kits. i want to just cry once and do it right the first time. my truck will be mostly a daily driver and summer time off-road trails around colorado/utah (Imogene pass, Engineer pass and moab for example). right now i have 31's on it on OE wheels/ stock hight. ive been looking at the Rough Country 4.5 long arm kit for a xj. i know the rear is different, but ive thought about a SOA in the rear. I'm fairly handy in the fabing deperment as i do a lot with my other car (vw bug). so with all this said, do i need a long arm kit, is it worth having? they seem to obviously flex better, do they ride better as well? is Rough Country a good kit? what would be a good kit for my intended purposes? here's a pic of my truck and my bug.
  5. Where can one get the 2500 front end swap, it actually looks very sweet on a Comanche.
  6. Love your truck. What is that front end called?
  7. That sensor on the thermostat housing is for the ecu. Not the gauge. I'm looking for info on where to put the one for the gauge.
  8. So about 2months ago I bought my first Comanche. I've been loving it ever since. Been just fixing little things here and their. When I bought the truck, only 2 gauges worked out of the whole cluster. Now I have all them working except for the temp gauge and speedo. So I decoded the engine in the truck and the block seems to be right for the truck. It says it is a 91' and my truck is a 92'. But someone at some point put a newer head on it cause it doesn't have the temp sender hole in the back driver side of the head. So my question is.... Where would I put the temp sender since the head doesn't have the needed hole? Also any one have any diy links as to help solve my non working speedo? That would be great as well. Thanks again guys.
  9. The new Cherokee is just plain ugly. I'll never get over the ugly lines that the front end has. I thought it would stop at the Nissan juke (joke) , but it seems as though jeep is liking the idea of putting the headlights in the bumper, and the day time running lights/ turn signals on the top. Kinda like an old Beetle in a way. I simply don't like it. Another thing is having an IFS front suspension. I had one on my ranger and it was horrible off-road. I know their getting better at making them now, but still, it's sad to see that it seems the only jeep in the line up that comes stock with sas front is the wrangler. I watched the Fox news video, the jeep guy says it can do just as much as a older Cherokee can, I seriously would love to see a real world comparison. I wanna see a 2001 Cherokee against a 2014 Cherokee and they both go up Engineer's pass in Ouray, CO. All in all, this to me is just another mall rat suv.
  10. For the white paint try and dab some paint thinner on a rag and see if the white paint comes off. I'm a painter in the winter months, so I can say it's safe to try and I bet it might take it off. When you get it all off, re-wax the affected area.
  11. The trans is just one out of an xj that's an auto with a tcase.
  12. Also mind giving me a list of everything I need or am missing? I want this to go as smoothly as possible.
  13. What issues did you guys run into?
  14. I just bought a 92 mj long bed 2wd 4.0l automatic. I bought the truck from a guy that more or less has his own jeep junk yard at his house. Tons of xj parts and 2 other mj parts trucks. When I bought the truck I scored a deal with him about getting everything to switch it over to 4x4. Trans, tcase, front and rear drive lines, and front axel all for $550. So I'm hoping that tomorrow I can pick up my 4x4 stuff, and I'm thinking I can get this 4x4 swap installed in one day... Anyone think I'm crazy or can't be done? I'll be installing front axel, removing the 2wd tyranny, reinstalling the 4x4 one with transfer case, install front drive line, and rear drive line. Hoping the guy gives me a rear drive line so I don't have to shorten my stock one.
  15. @minuit Ya turn signals work as well with high beams. Any how to any of you know of for testing it? I'll also look on the door tomorrow and check for an actual build date.
  16. Well a quick update. I went ahead and bought the 92' long bed, 6.0L, 2wd mj today. I got the truck for $1400 and the guy is throwing in everything to do the 4wd swap for another $550. I feel it's not a bad deal altogether. So after taking ownership, I got it home and have already started a few odds and ends that it needs. I put on a new serpentine belt, the oil pressure switch needed to be a gauge type. So I went to ol' auto zone and picked up a few things. So far the fuel gauge only reads up to a 1/4 tank. I filled up the tank with fuel and the gauge only went up too a 1/4 tank. Second, none of the dash lights work, nor do the turn signal lights or the high beam indicator light. Third, the coolant temp gauge reads cold all the time as well. So tomorrow I plan on pulling out the gauge cluster to see what's up with it. And fourth, the speedo isn't working. But all in all its still a really clean truck. On to the pics. I'll start a proper build thread here soon.
  17. Thanks everyone. I'm heading up to junction tonight to go look at it tomorrow. Does anybody have any input on the whole 4x4 swap they can input? Anything I should look out for besides the floor pans? The Comanche is also an automatic. @neohic thanks, nice bug you get their as well. My super Beetle is a 75 LaGrande edition. It's actually the factory green that it came as. I Also made it water-cooled. I put a 2.1 waterboxer vanagon motor in it, standalone fuel management (megasquirt), and turbo'd. It's been a fun build. LOL.
  18. Hello, my name is Weston. I've been mostly a volkswagen guy in the past. A year ago now I had a Toyota 4 runner. Since I live in Durango, CO I have lots of off-road type of adventures. So having never really doing any 4x4ing before, I decided to go do a few off road passes. After that my love affair started with off roading. Fast fwd a year, I sold my 4 runner for something with more power for towing (towing the bug I have) ..... I bought a 98 ford ranger 4.0 v6 4x4 with a 4 inch lift and 33's. I've owned the truck for a year now and it's been a good truck for hauling and being a daily driver. Well 3 weeks ago I took the truck for the first time over a simple off road pass and I was horribly disappointed with what the truck could do and especially it's turning radius. Being that it's the first year the Rangers switched to IFS and rack&pinion steering, it's going to cost a lot to make the truck do what I want it to. I'd love to sas it but I've decided against it. By now I'm sure you all reading this, are now asking yourself what does this have anything to do with a Comanche..... Well I've decided to sell the ranger for a jeep Comanche mj. I've been lurking on this forum now for about a month now. And this forum has more or less convinced me that I need to own a mj. I don't like the usual cookie cutter xj jeep that everyone else has, and I need a truck. So mj it is. I want something that I can daily drive, and yet in the summer I can go wheeling cause I've really grown to enjoy it. This weekend I'm gonna go look at a 92 Comanche that seems very clean from the pictures. It has the 4.0l 6Cyl. Only down side is that it's a 2wd, but the guy says he has a front end, transfer case, and dive shafts. After looking at the process on line, switching from a 2wd to a 4wd doesn't seem too hard to accomplish. Well I just wanted to post up and say that I'm excited to hopefully be getting into the Comanche world. Here's a few pics of my bug I build over this last winter. I did all the work myself. Fabled it all, painted it... Everything in about 5 months time so I could have it done for a show in Vegas. Here's 2 of my ranger at the moment.
